Annual Around Arlington Chili Cookoff

The cooler weather is telling us it's time to do another chili cookoff.  Everyone has their favorite chili recipe they like to make, so dust off your crockpot, make your best recipe and bring it over to see how it measures up against others.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

1.  We of course need chili entries.  When making your RSVP, be sure to note if you'll be bringing chili.  You'll need to bring your chili in a slow cooker and provide a spoon for stirring/serving.

2.  We also need the sides to go with it such as fritos, crackers, cheese, onions, cornbread, or desserts.

3.  We'll have plastic ware, tasting cups, napkins, ice tea, water and some sodas.  Feel free to bring your drink of choice.  We aren't youngins so adult beverages are welcome too.

4.  $5 per person:  this will help generate prize money and defray the some of the set up costs.  Everyone will easily get a bowl or more of chili so should be a cheap date for anyone of us.

5.  Everyone gets to taste and judge!  [bring rolaids if you need them]

PRIZES  details to follow but know there will be many and good ones.  Watch conversation as we get your input too.

ACTIVE MEMBERS  As this event is in a private residence, it is open to members we have met (Active Members) - safety precaution - thanks for understanding!  There are many opportunities to meet us prior to this event at public locations.  Other RSVP's will be removed prior to emailing address.

Something has come up and I'm going to have to change my RSVP to No. Will see you this next time.

  • Davette

What time is the tasting? I may be a little late, but don't want to miss it.

    February 22

    • Roger F.

What time do you want to do judging, 2?

      February 22

    • Tracy H

We won't be able to start tasting and the judging at the same time. Judging will be done by the attendees. It will take awhile for the group to taste 12 chilis and complete their ballets. Hopefully by 4P if not before.

I've updated the RSVP's to include the active members only and increased the attendance limit a tiny bit to clear out the waiting list. I'll be mailing out the address to all yes RSVPs on Saturday.

I just remembered why we aren't hosting this. Stupid no meat diet. I'm changing my RSVP to no for that reason, but I have lots of tasting cups from last year if you want them.

    1 · January 1, 2014

    • Tracy H

My Jeff is right there with you except no beans for him.

      January 1, 2014

    • Maureen

I'm vegetarian and there were two chilis that I could eat last time. I'm bringing jalapeño corn bread.....

      2 · January 2, 2014

  • Joy H.

Are there any rules for the chili recipe?

    January 1, 2014

    • Tracy H

Not at this time. Any recommendations?
