Everyone loves a parade! Wear your Red, White & Blue and join us in downtown Arlington for the annual Arlington 4th of July Parade which starts at 9:00A. We've done this for several years and it's great fun for kids and adults. Dogs on leashes welcome too! Bring your stadium chair, cold water, a hat, camera, and sunscreen. Rolling coolers are good too. Come early if you want to sit with us, shaded sidewalk fills up FAST!
It's a BIG small-town parade! The parade is an annual event (47th year) and consists of generally 150 entries. The number of spectators over the years has ranged up to 70,000. Parade entries include local marching bands to exotic automobiles, military color guards to clowns, and dignitaries to unique presentations. Of course, the parade has a distinguished assortment of floats. Some floats are professionally built, but many are the proud results of individual ingenuity by local organizations and businesses.
When/Where to find us:
We will be on the EAST side of Center Street, facing the back of the Levitt Pavilion Stage so we can get some shade. It's the 200 block of Center, between Abram and South btw - by the Compass Bank drive through ATM.
8:00ish - Use chairs/coolers on Center St to hold our spot (no coffee shop open nearby this year)
9:00ish - Watch parade with great friends (our spot is about halfway through parade route)
1:30ish - Lunch at Twisted Root Burgers (cold beer and great A/C, avoid the parade traffic - checking on their new Gluten Free menu)
Twisted Root is walking distance from the parade. Look at the parade route online.
Several roads will be closed for the parade. Also, several are one-way, SO PLAN AHEAD for getting there on time and finding the group! Try parking at the church just South of Levitt or in the lots on the North side of Abram so you're close to the parade and Twisted Root! It's is on Abram, two blocks East of the parade.
Event is outdoors and therefore weather-dependant of course! It's JULY so that could mean RAIN or extreme HEAT issues. BTW, they've never cancelled the parade due to weather - but we might not be up to it as a Meetup if it's too extreme.
Check us out at the, 2011 Parade, 2010 Parade, 2008 Parade, and 2007 Parade. (Yeah, we missed the 2009 parade.)
