Volunteer @Mission Arlington Xmas Store

Grab your kids or friends and volunteer today. Volunteers are needed to help people shop, wrap gifts, play with children, stock toys, deliver Christmas trees, repair and deliver bicycles - and whatever else needs to be done! We might even end up delivering presents. We won't all be volunteering together - we'll be assigned to tasks as needed. (You can easily find the group at lunch afterwards though!)

No, we haven't signed up as a group, so they're not expecting us at a certain time. For the Christmas season, Mission Arlington needs volunteers 10A - 6P M-Sat from 12/8-12/21.

WHERE TO FIND US
We will meet at the front door of Mission Arlington at 10 AM and then head inside. This is the same location where we waited in line for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner Deliveries! Typically there's not a long line for this since it's spread out over a few weeks though. I'll have my one-of-a-kind very fashionable Red Meetup Baseball Cap on!

FAMILY FRIENDLY
Come Volunteer! This is a family-friendly event: there is something for everyone, and everyone is needed! Bring a group, bring your family or just bring yourself - volunteering during the holidays can be a very rewarding and beneficial time together for everyone! Mission Arlington has volunteers of all ages - they don't post a minimum age, so use your own judgement - you know if your kids are up for this type of event. Come any day for any amount of time!

CHECK IN
Check in to this Meetup event via your smartphone or by posting a comment or photos after the event starts so we know you were there! Or check in at lunch!

LUNCH @FUZZYS
Fuzzy's Tacos is just down the street from Mission Arlington on Abram St. We'll meet you there around 1 PM if you're done volunteering for the day. We'll be done by 2 pm.

OK a few notes so we have the info for next year: There's a Volunteer Staging Area where we need to start. They need volunteers for childcare in addition to the store. Inside the store you can volunteer in the stockroom - organizing, refilling store gifts, and marking through the UPC codes so items cant be returned. Also, inside the store you can assist shoppers, wrap gifts, or open bags (we did 1K in two hours). A few folks also pair up shoppers with volunteers (I did this for a short time). Shoppers got one large gift, one small and one stuffed animal per child. One gift can be wrapped. There are additional volunteers who carry gifts downstairs and even out to the shoppers cars. Shoppers can make a second stop at the Decorations building where they get trees, ornaments, and stuff. Big groups started early and left at lunch - start at 11 and cover the lunch shift like 1130-230. Volunteers MUST put on a name tag - it's the only way to tell them from shoppers. Kids OK.

I was looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday, but I couldn't get hooked up with the group. Ada, I may have seen you in the gift wrap area. I was one of the ones passing out water to the volunteers. Then, my friend and I spent some time across the street in the child care area. Fun time.

As always, Mission Arlington's events attract LOTS of volunteers! We had some challenges getting started, but had a great time once we got situated in our 'jobs'!

Yes, Kathleen they have plenty of options available, but our group will be there just at the time posted for this event: 10-1. Just check out their website for a complete list of hours they need volunteers. Doesn't have to be 3-hours btw, can be whatever amount of time you have available.

What is the minimum age for children to help? My 3 youngest nephews are 9, 13 & 17 and I would sure like to give them the opportunity to learn about helping others.

    November 8, 2012

    • Dawn

They have no policy posted about minimum age. I used to bring my daughter here and to do gift sorting at Salvation Army when she was that age - your nephews should have a great time! Bring 'em!

Great Dawn! I will do that. Looking forward to seeing you guys (and chowing on some fondue) tonight!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
