Event Attendance Policy

Thanks for making this such a great group. ~dawn

Event Attendance Policy
Attend as many or as few events as you like. If you RSVP YES, please attend. If your plans change, please change your RSVP. Our organizers appreciate your courtesy.

If you RSVP YES and do attend, you will earn the title of Active Member. Your title remains the same unless you No-show for an event. MAYBE RSVPs are always considered as NO when making reservations, so change your RSVP if you're really planning to attend. Thanks for your cooperation.

Home-based events are open to members whom the host or organizers have personally met. This is a safety precaution, thanks for understanding. Home addresses are not published online, so we email them one day before the home-based event to YES RSVPs we've met. Most members with the ACTIVE MEMBER title would be welcome at these events.

Why No-shows Matter to Us
Our organizers and event hosts volunteer their time to organize events. Often they spend a lot of time and their money to make an more enjoyable for other members. For some events, a no-show does not negatively impact the experience, and in some cases it does. In order to be fair to all members, all no-shows will be treated in the same manner. Here are some examples of why no-shows matter to us.

  • There is a limit to how many people can come. Someone not showing means someone else could have taken their place if they had been kind enough to tell someone.
  • Tickets must be reserved ahead of time, e.g. a movie or play. In some cases the Organizer or AO purchases the tickets ahead of time with their own money and is relying on everyone showing up to get that money back.
  • A table for dinner is reserved for a certain number of people above the limit at which ridiculously high gratituity is added to the bill. Even when fewer people show up, the gratuity is added because they reserved those seats and could not use them for other customers.
  • There is a group discount, and everyone has shown up with X amount of money, but the 5 no-shows mean you will be charged more.
  • Preparing food for guests in your home - it is expensive and time consuming, plus most of us clean our houses pretty extensively when people are coming over.
  • Bringing adequate supplies for an event - sometimes we buy extra, or spend time gathering or borrowing stuff we don't need for no-shows.
  • Also, it impacts the start time of some events, as I am sure we have all experiences like this.
  • In some cases, a multiple of some number may be required, such as pub trivia groups or Bunco (which requires 12 people to play).
