You are invited to participate in a North Country Trail work weekend in Grand Rapids!
Please mark Friday, May 16th, Saturday, May 17th, and Sunday, May 18th on your calendar for a North Country Trail trail-building work weekend in Grand Rapids, MN. This event will be hosted by the North Country Trail Association’s Arrowhead Chapter. (Note: bad weather backup dates are June 13-15.)
What will we be doing?
• We will be teaching interested volunteers about how the North Country National Scenic Trail is built using a variety of hand tools – e.g. Pulaskis, pick mattocks, McLeods, etc.
• We will be working toward completing approximately 2-miles of trail tread within an already cleared corridor. The work is located on UPM-Blandin lands north of the U of M’s NCROC property.
When & where to meet: Meet at the CR-B / 27th Ave. trailhead* at 9am on Friday and at 8am on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be full day and Sunday will be a three-quarter day (work til’ ~3pm) but you are welcome to join us and work for as long as you want to/can! The work weekend will be held rain or shine. Last minute details or changes will be posted on the Chapter’s Facebook page (http://tinyurl.com/mbs2df) and emailed out to those who RSVP via our MN Arrowhead North Country Trail Hikers Meetup group (http://www.meetup.com/Arrowhead-NCT-hikers/). What will I need to bring? You will need to bring work gloves, work clothes, water, breakfasts & lunches, raingear (not your best stuff), and a change of clothes. Fee camping is available at the Itasca County Fairgrounds or the Army Corps’ Pokegama Dam Recreation Area in Grand Rapids.
What will be provided? We’ll have all the tools, hardhats, and safety glasses. The Chapter will be providing a trail lunch on Saturday & Sunday and a cookout dinner on Saturday night. Details will be shared with those who RSVP.
