Joy of Toys Opening Reception

The Joy of Toys - Folk Art toys from around the world.

This is the Opening reception for this exhibit, which means food and drink, all free. There are over 100 toys filling the gallery rooms, mostly from one man's private collection he gathered as he traveled the world!

Unfortunately, Shemer doesn't get most of their info out until a week before the event, so I will add info to this as I get it!

Should be an interesting show! Want to go?

Fun stuff! How ingenious people can be when they have to create something from nothing! Tremendous ingenuity in a lot of the pieces! It was interesting hearing Ted talk about how coke cans appear in all parts of the world in different languages...and how the poor people dig the cans out of the trash, make them into folk art, then sell them back to the tourists who threw the cans away! That's true consumerism recycling!

I collect fine art prints, as well as rubber duckies. This is in the range of what I enjoy. Can't wait!

I will be inside the Front door wearing a Meetup Badge from 6- 6:20 pm. After that, I will be inside somewhere wandering around. It's not a large place, although there are several rooms (old house) and a courtyard. I will probably hang out near/in the front room or near the food in the dining room (people like to congregate there and munch). If it isn't insufferably hot, I might be in the courtyard. Remember what I look like...I'm 5'9 with shoes on!

Remember that Ted the collector will be starting his talk about collecting the toys at 7 PM! I'm looking forward to this...AND meeting new members ...and of course visiting with those I already know! See you THURSDAY night!!
