June Museum Meetup:
MOCA / Geffan Contemporary
(it's free to get in the Geffan with ticket stub)
Saturday, June 26 at noon
Hello art history Meetup folks,
First, thanks to those who came out to last month’s 1st installment of the museum Meetup at the Getty Center -that was really great. To recap, we visited the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition (ends June 20), had lunch out on the lawn, and then toured the Italian and Northern European Baroque collection.
Our next outing is on June 26th at MOCA/Geffen Contemporary and I am going to start this one off with a lecture at 12:00pm. We will meet at the café in front of the doors at noon and I will conduct a short lecture on MOCA’s First Thirty Years Exhibition (which ends on July 12th). I just finished teaching "Art Since 1945" at CSULA so I hope to be able to shed some light on the exhibition.
This lecture and exhibition will include Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting and the New York School, Existential figurative sculpture, Neo-Dada and much more. Artist includes Rothko, Jackson Pollack, de Kooning, Claes Oldenburg, Franz Kline, Robert Rauschenberg and many more. This particular collection really speaks to the shift during WWll when the artists fled Hitler’s Europe and relocated to New York starting in 1939.
Other details:
Is there free parking? No, the meters are $4 an hour and parking at the Disney Center across the street costs $8. Tickets to get in are $10 or $5 with student ID. This also includes free access to the Geffen Contemporary down the street.
Can I bring children? Nope, I think everyone will prefer adults only.

Exciting, thoroughly engaging event. I understand far more about 20th century art now than I did four hours ago!
