In this first thematic tour of the National Gallery collection we will look at the beginnings of European Art - the Middle Ages.
We will find out what was the impulse behind the creation of first panel paintings in the 13th-14th century, look at the life of the artist, studio practices , learn how to identify the egg tempera technique and find out why it gave way to oil technique in the Netherlands. We will see Europe emerge from the dark ages and into a world of faith, colour and discovery.
After the tour we can have a cup of tea and socialise at one of the National Gallery's cafes.
