Art for the Uninitiated : The Human Figure - repeat

  • Nov 3, 2013 · 3:00 PM
  • The National Gallery

From the very beginning, men and women populated paintings in stories from the Bible, Mythology, History or scenes of everyday life. Before we look at some of those stories in future sessions, lets look at the figure itself - male and female, clothed and naked - and the way artists represented it. We will see a huge variety of body types and learn how their look is dictated by what artists did or did not know about the body, by the artist's style and preferences and most of all, by social tastes, fashions and conventions of the times in which they were painted.

As always we can sit down to a cuppa afterwards.
