Lightning in a Bottle: Performing Arts Photography

"Lightning in a Bottle"

The Artistry of Performing Arts Photography

How to Capture the Magic

PPANE Member $15.00 Non Member $30.00

Live dance and theatrical performances can contain moments of emotional brilliance only experienced by the audience members in attendance and perhaps ... one lucky photographer.

Come join Tim Barden as he shares tips for shooting live performing arts as well as post processing tips and his artistic approach to photographing theater and dance.

Learn how to prepare for the shoot and how to deal with both panic and exuberance when the lights come up.  Highlights will be living with the light you're given (almost always too little), dress rehearsal and performance etiquette, getting access, licensing considerations and much more.  Most important, when the first note is played, or the first line is spoken, how to forget about your gear and technique so you can become one with the performers on stage... the only way to capture lighting in a bottle.  The magic moments that make for unforgettable images.

This was a workshop put together by Tim Barden on photographing dancers and theater. Tim did a wonderful job of putting together a nice presentation that was loaded with good tips and ideas. Thank you Tim!
