"The Kreutzer Sonata" ... with special ticket discount offer

From Nancy McNary Smith:
"Martin Giles gave the performance of a lifetime in his role in The Kreutzer Sonata. This role and this performance was a transformation beyond comprehension. There was not a stock response; every gesture, movement, intonation, every bit of timing -- was new, true, un-nervingly on mark. He had the audience in his palm, from the first seconds of the performance to the end.

This has to be one of the most amazing theater experiences of my 40 years in Pittsburgh, subscribing to most of the theaters in town. I'm so glad I was there."

In "The Kreutzer Sonata" audiences travel with Pozdynyshev, an enigmatic stranger weaving a tale of love, loss and betrayal.

Hear his sensuous wife playing piano while his old friend plays violin, the Kreutzer Sonata between them, powerful and evocative.

Was this music the soundtrack to their illicit passion, or has Pozdynyshev made a terrible mistake?

Irish playwright Nancy Harris has transformed Tolstoy's classic novella into a theatrical experience you'll not soon forget.

This Pittsburgh premiere stars Martin Giles with an unforgettable performance featuring Beethoven's masterpiece performed by violinist Juan Jaramillo and pianist Alaine Fink.

SPECIAL DISCOUNT FOR MEETUP: $26/ticket (INCLUDES FEE) which is nearly 50% off saving as compared to the normal $48 ticket price. Use code PICTMEET when purchasing your tickets online at www.picttheatre.org

Amazing acting - he deserved a standing ovation (but didn't get it for some reason)

I will try to meet at Schenely Plaza beforehand.

I'll be near the Conflict Kitchen stand with a red shirt

This also my first meet-up. I will try to get to Schenley Plaza- if I can find it!- but am visiting at MaGee Hosp. before so timing will be tricky.
    Will parking be an issue?

    June 22, 2013

    • Mark

you should be able to find parking .. Schenley Plaza is on Forbes directly across from the Cathedral of Learning and you'll see lots of grass, food stands, large tent, etc. This is the area before you get to Phipps Conservatory. If you can't find street parking, you can pay at the Carnegie Museum lot.

I am open to meeting at the porch beforehand if anyone else is going to? This is my first meet-up so how do we find each other at the show?

    June 21, 2013

Mita ... I'll be wearing a red shirt. I've posted some ideas for meeting at Schenley Plaza before the show so we can enjoy the nice weather. But if you can't make it earlier, come to the lobby at 7:30 and when you pick up the tickets, just ask for Mark and maybe they can point me out. I'll be wearing a red shirt.

Just saw this on Porch website -- "PLEASE NOTE: Due to a private event, we will be closed to the public from 4:00 PM to close on Saturday, June 22. We will resume normal hours on Sunday. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Thanks, Janet ... I just stopped by The Porch about an hour ago and they mentioned the wedding today

Because The Porch has a wedding, if anyone would still like to meet before the show, we can meet in Schenley Plaza get something from one of the kiosks (Conflict Kitchen, Waffalonia, or Chinese, etc.) and eat outside or under the tent. We could also do a little tour of the nearby Fine Fricks Arts building which is really beautiful inside. So how is this for a plan for meeting at Schenley Plaza

5:45-6:30 PM meet at an outdoor table near the Conflict Kitchen (which is just before the big tent in Schenley Plaza) ... grab some food, mingle, enjoy the nice weather

6:30-7 PM little tour of nearby Fine Frick Arts Building 7-7:30 PM meet at an outdoor table near the Conflict Kitchen ... grab a quick bite and mingle

7:30 PM meet in downstairs lobby of Stephen Foster Memorial before going in to see the play

If we've never met before, I'll be wearing a red shirt.

Janet, thanks for letting us know. I'll be in the lobby at 7:15 if anyone from the group actually wants to meet.

    June 22, 2013

I'm happy to meet at the Porch at 6 and hopefully others we'll see that we are there and join us - if you get there later, tell the hostess you are looking for the meet up group and she can seat you with us - I also suggest that if anyone want to meet at the play, we'll be in the lobby of Stephen Foster at 7:15, we'll hang out for a few minutes and then we can sit together.

Can't join for eating before/after due to travel schedule.......

    June 21, 2013

  • Mark

If you'd like, feel free to update your RSVP to include if you'd be interested in meeting/eating at The Porch or outside in Schenley Plaza before the play (say 6-6:30 PM), or perhaps doing something after the show around 9:45 PM

Just a reminder to order your tickets online for the best seats possible! I believe some people are gathering at 6 at The Porch before the show and Mark Freeman also suggested maybe some might want to get together afterwards to discuss the play.

Is anyone who is attending the play Saturday planning on meeting at the porch at 6 PM?
