With so much going on this weekend downtown with the Pittsburgh JazzLive International and Three Rivers Arts Festival as well as full schedule of shows at Heinz Hall, Benedum, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Cabaret Theater, etc., it might be nice to consider a straw man plan for various times on Sunday.
Some suggestions are provided below for various times -- while there will also be plenty of nearby places to eat/drink.
From 12-1 PM, there will be a free talk by the remarkable artist Al Bright at 709 Penn Gallery (near Katz Plaza and the Benedum). The gallery includes Al's incredible paintings inspired by live jazz performances. Check out this great article from the Trib
Beginning at 1:15 PM, catch the great Sean Jones Quartet outside on the Penn Avenue II Stage near the Benedum less than a block from 709 Gallery.
Around 2 PM, there are couple choices -- a) stay outside for more Pittsburgh JazzLive International performers, Three Rivers Arts Festival, etc. or b) join the Meetup event already posted as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs with the brilliant Chinese pianist Yuja Wang at Heinz Hall. This should be be an amazing concert while offering a little break from the heat. The Heinz Hall concert should be over by 4:45 PM.
Beginning at 4:45 PM, we'll return to the Pittsburgh JazzLive International to catch the great Roger Humphries & RH Factor where there will be a special bonus as artist Al Bright (see above) produces an incredible painting inspired by this live jazz performance on the 9th Street Stage. Also, two other jazz bands will also be performing nearby -- Marcus Miller (4-5:30 PM) and Ralph Peterson Sextet (5:30-7 PM) on Penn Avenue Stage I/II.
Around 7 PM, there are couple choices (although the Chaka Khan concert has had to cancel due to illness) -- a) go over to the Three Rivers Arts Festival to check out the free concert with Cello Fury/Joy Ike/Scott Blasey from 7:30-9 PM or b) join the Meetup event already posted at the Caberet Theater which is an all-inclusive Tony Awards Celebrating Broadway party with foods/drinks/etc.
When you RSVP, it would be helpful to know which events you might be interested in.
It is suggested that people arrive to the Cultural District early. Here is a map showing which streets will be impacted by the festivals on Sunday https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=209952117883843037679.0004dcda1f68efbc42b4c&msa=0
