"The Tempest, or The Enchanted Isle" by Unseam'd Shakespeare

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of Unseam'd Shakespeare theatre company, audiences have a unique opportunity to experience a very exciting adaptation called "The Tempest, or The Enchanted Isle" during June 13-29, 2013.

This is not THE TEMPEST you think you know! Originally adapted by John Dryden and William D'Avenant for the restoration England in the 17th century, while still using much of Shakespeare's original text, THE TEMPEST, OR THE ENCHANTED ISLE was more popular than the original for almost 200 years.

However, the play has been further adapted by Scott Palmer, and now makes its way to Unseam'd Shakespeare Company for its East Coast premiere!!

In this comic treatment of the play, audiences will be sated with an abundance of actresses, a fondness for pleasures of the flesh & a winking defense of the monarchy.

Please note in addition to a Meetup discount, there will also be a special talk back Q&A discussion with the director and cast following the performance on June 26.

Isle be there, will you?

The Unseam'd Shakespeare production of "The Tempest, or The Enchanted Isle" will take Scott Palmer’s rich and strange adaptation of John Dryden and William D’Avenant’s version of Shakespeare’s classic as a starting point, fully exploring it in setting, costume, and style. Unseam'd may not threaten to overtake Shakespeare's poetic reputation, but will almost certainly do it no harm. Dryden and Davenant’s adaptation of the play held the stage for nearly two hundred years, and we hope that our production may cast a light not only the morals and manners of the time, (and perhaps some resonances for our own) but on the play's long-standing popularity. This is not Shakespeare's play. Come and see why Dryden and D'Avenant's re-telling of Shakespeare's classic held the stage for over 200 years.
