The Moth: Pittsburgh Story Slam

What is The Moth???

The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It is a celebration of both the raconteur, who breathes fire into true tales of ordinary life, and the storytelling novice, who has lived through something extraordinary and yearns to share it. At the center of each performance is, of course, the story – and The Moth’s directors work with each storyteller to find, shape and present it.

Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for the audience.

The Pittsburgh Moth Story Slams usually take place at the Rex Theatre the second Tuesday of the month.

We can meet in the lobby of the Rex at 7pm to get our tickets and mingle beforehand. Afterwards if the group is interested we can go out for a drink. More details to follow closer to the date.

Please note that while tickets at the door are only $5 -- one needs to get there early as these events often sell-out. Lines will begin forming by 7 PM. However, there is another option for those that can't be there early which is to buy the advance ticket for $10 by visiting http://themoth.org/events?category=25

It will probably be very busy again. Also, if you're relatively new to Meetup and don't know too many people, I'll try to wear something easy to spot. A black coat, jeans, and red scarf. If you get there early, we'll have a group in the central lobby area between the bar and performance space. It's not necessary for everyone to stay in this area as some may wish to grab/save some seats for others.

If you don't happen to see anyone, we'll gather in this same lobby area during intermission.

Hope everyone is looking forward to tomorrow's Moth event.

As a reminder, the doors open at 7 PM prior to the 8 PM performance. The line at the Rex Theater door will probably begin around 6:30-6:45 PM and so it is recommended that you try to be there by 7-7:15 PM. This will also allow people to meet/mingle a bit more, get a drink, etc. before the show and get seats together. In the past, this event has sold out many times --and so for those that get there later on, you may not get in. So it is best to come early.

Hi all! Pre-sale doesn't seem to be available on the website. Does anyone know if the limited pre-sale tickets are gone already or if they haven't gone up yet?

Hi Samantha. I don't think they've done the pre-sale yet. But I'm planning on getting to the Rex Theater early.

What a great idea. I went through Amazon to get a collection of their stories ("The Moth")

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
