Because the concert begins at 7:30 PM, there are several options for those that might wish to arrive early and do something together (get dinner, walk in South Park, etc.)
1) A very nice, affordable and popular restaurant The South Park Clubhouse http://www.thesouthparkclubhouse.com/ is located next to the South Park Amphitheater. Here is the menu which also includes 40 beers on tap http://www.thesouthparkclubhouse.com/OurMenu.html
The South Park Clubhouse would also be an option for dinner or a drink after the concert ends around 9:30 PM.
2) For those that might not be as hungry, but might want to check out a bit more of South Park, we could take about 30-60 minutes for a little walk to check out the nearby Game Preserve (birds, buffalo, etc.) and other sites of interest.
3) Because the concert is outdoors, many visitors and residents just decide to bring their own food, drink (please be discreet since no alchohol is permitted), etc. But for those that don't bring anything, there is usually a food stand set-up near the stage with hot dogs, snacks, soda, etc. for a nominal charge which sometimes benefits a local non-profit.If anyone is interested in meeting earlier (say 6 PM) for dinner/drink at the South Park Clubhouse which is next to the concert location, please post some comments.
Meetup Considerations -- Location & Time
If anyone is interested in meeting earlier (say 6 PM) for dinner/drink at the South Park Clubhouse which is next to the concert location, please post some comments. Another option is to go out after the concert which should be over by 9:30 PM.
However, if most people arrive around 7-7:30 PM, we need a back-up option.
I'll be wearing something easy to spot -- a red shirt with jeans and glasses -- and with a red chair.
If you can't find the group -- please proceed to the right of the stage (near where they usually have the food set-up) at 7:30 PM just before the concert starts and then we'll walk back to the group area.
If you get there after the concert begins, please proceed to the right of the stage (near where they usually have the food set-up) at 8 PM or 8:30 PM and I'll try to find you. I'll be wearing something easy to spot -- a red shirt with jeans and glasses.
Another back option is to have a balloon set-up near the group area, but once the concert begins, it will have to be lowered somewhat so it won't be disruptive to the rest of the audience watching the concert.
In Case of Rain The concert is scheduled for 7:30 PM. But you can also call[masked] for more info if the weather looks really bad or for any other questions about the concert.
If the concert is cancelled due to the weather, our back-up plan will be to see the play "Things My Mother Told Me" at the nearby South Park Theatre (a short walk from the concert venue and South Park Clubhouse) which also begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets are only $12. Here is the link showing the entire 2014 South Park Theatre season http://www.southparktheatre.com/index.php/main-stage/2014-season In this play (which runs from August 7-23), Olivia & Gabe are moving into their 1st apartment together halfway across the country from their parents. So imagine their surprise when everyone shows up to help! A sort of modern day "Barefoot in the Park," this hilarious and touching show will make you laugh out loud and fall in love all over again!
Of course, it is also fine if people would like to meet beforehand for dinner or walk -- but see the play instead of the concert.
Parking There is plenty of free parking
When you RSVP, it is OK if you'd like to just attend the free jazz (or play), a pre-show dinner or walk. We can also plan to meet afterwards at South Park Clubhouse around 9:30-11 PM if desired. And if you're relatively new to Meetup and are already living in the South Hills, this would be a nice event to attend to meet some people -- regardless of how long you decide to stay.
