Please join PICT for the closing night performance of "Woman and Scarecrow" (by playwright Marina Carr who is one of Ireland’s leading dramatists) in The Henry Heymann Theatre located inside the Stephen Foster Memorial.
"Woman and Scarecrow" is a breathtaking and bitterly funny play by Marina Carr who has imagined a world both beautiful and spooky in the space of one woman’s bedroom -- and a wonderful glimpse into the imagination of a woman near her end.
The play focuses on a very particular moment in time – "a sacred moment" as Marina has called it, as a woman tries to reconcile herself to death before her time. Woman—a mother of eight children and wife to a philandering husband—is conversing with her companion, Scarecrow, whom only she can see. She considers all that might have been and all that will go on without her. Who will care for her children? What might be different if she hadn’t fallen for Him? Remember that time when…Woman’s wardrobe, once a mere furnishing in the room, seems to hold her fate. Is Death lurking there? The once-benign wardrobe in her bedroom takes on a menacing role, as Scarecrow battles what lurks inside to buy Woman just a little more time.
If you liked Margaret Edson’s Wit, try Marina Carr’s lyrical play which is also appropriate for ages 18+.
"Woman and Scarecrow" features an all-star cast, starring:
Nike Doukas as Woman
Karen Baum as Scarecrow
Sharon Brady as Auntie Ah
James FitzGerald as Him
Don't miss this inspiring and riveting 'must see' production!
