American Idiot -- The smash Broadway hit featuring the music of Green Day

Direct from Broadway, the smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album and featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. With direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch) and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), the result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

Tickets go onsale to the public on Friday, November 30 but through a special offer, we'll be able to order tickets in advance (to have a chance at better seats) and get a group rate for 10+ Meetups. We also have 30 discounted seats on hold in 3 different sections.  See below for details.

It is also OK if you would like to just take advantage of the ticket discount separately; for example, if you wanted to treat someone (date, family, friend, etc.) and just need a couple seats but don't want to necessarily sit in the Meetup group sections. In this case, you'll get the best seats possible for a given price range at the time the order is finalized.

In addition, there will be a special After Party at the Backstage Bar/Cabaret Theatre (1/2-block walk from Heinz Hall) featuring fun 'Green Day inspired' cocktails, wine specials (only $3.50 per glass), and craft beer specials ($2.50/bottle) ... as well as a complimentary Improv Theater performance on February 21. This is one evening you won't want to miss!!

Discounted Ticket Options for Meetup

Step 1 -- Decide if you'd like the $25 Ticket, $43.05 Ticket, or $50.25 ticket by February 19.

Note that the $50.25 Meetup price is a discount compared to the normal $62 ticket ... plus you're saving ticket handling charges. Similarly, the $43.05 Meetup ticket would normally cost $53 while the $25 Meetup ticket would normally cost $33.

FYI, the cheapest ticket for this show is $20 (upper balcony farthest from stage) although there won't be a discount

Step 2 -- Look at the Heinz Hall Seating Plan to see seat locations where seats on hold in 3 sections in the same row or back-to-back rows.

http://www.trustarts.org/uploads/Image/seating_charts/seating_chart_heinz_hall.pdf

http://www.trustarts.culturaldistrict.org/performance/33330/tiers/show

Section Orchestra Center on the Floor

Row Q 108 - 111 four seats together at $50.25 each
Row R 109 - 114 six seats together at $50.25 each

Anything closer to the stage than Row Q is also $50.25 each

Family Circle in the Balcony

Center Row C 108 - 113 six seats together at $43.05 each
Center Row D 110 - 113 four seats together at $43.05 each

Right Center A[masked] six seats together at $43.05 each

Grand Tier Left or Grand Tier Right (this is the cool Mezzanine in between the Orchestra Floor and Balcony) at $43.05 each

Gallery in the Balcony

Center Row O 101 - 110 ten seats together at $25.00 each

Right Center E 102 - 112 six seats together at $25.00 each

Also, if you'd rather sit somewhere else (maybe if you're bringing someone) but still want the discount let me know. You don't have to sit with the Meetup group to get the ticket discount.

Step 3 -- when you RSVP, please indicate which ticket price level you'd like before February 19

Also, if you'd like to sit a little closer to the stage or cheapest $20 seats, email me and I'll see what might be available.

It is also OK if you'd like to decide after February 19 and we can see about getting some smaller groups of seats together depending on price and availability.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show (though the critic in me might have some notes on the plot) and the late nite improv comedy was a wonderful added bonus even if I did end up having to run for my last bus. Thanks much for organizing this.

Looks good - I'll be trying for the $20 tickets at the door.

Just a final note with so many people sitting in various sections. -- The show begins at 7:30 PM so be in your seats by 7:20 PM ... this lively show is 90 minutes (no intermission) so use the bathrooms beforehand.

-- The afterparty is at nearby Backstage/Cabaret Theater (on Penn Avenue, across from the side of Heinz Hall between 6th and 7th) around 9:15 PM with great $2.50-$3.50 beer/wine specials, 'green day inspired' cocktails and complimentary Improv performance.

-- Ticket Pickup -- If we haven't met at Braddock's (inside Renaissance Hotel on 6th Street, next to Byham Theater one block from Heinz Hall) beginning at 5:30 PM or Heinz Hall Box Office Lobby around 7 PM and you still haven't picked up one of the discounted tickets that you know I purchased in advance ($20, $25, $43.05, $50.25) then they can be picked up under your name at the Heinz Hall Box Office. Mention Mark/Meetup group.

-- To buy $20 tickets just ask for the best $20 seats on the floor (Row AA or BB)

    one $25 seat please

    February 20, 2013

  • Cheryl

Mark, I will meet you at Braddock's and pay you then if that's okay.

    February 20, 2013

  • Mark

Because we have many people that have not met (and sitting in various sections with $20 seats, $25 seats, $43 seats, $50 seats), I was wondering if people might also want to have the option to get together maybe a little earlier say 6 PM for appetizers/mingle a bit from 6-7 PM.

Also, this would be an opportunity for those that want to buy $20 tickets at the door to coordinate their tickets in certain rows.

Thus, I'm happy to report that Braddock's (inside Renaissance Hotel one block from Heinz Hall) will be offering a special Meetup menu for lite bites between 6-7 PM. If you'd like to get there a little earlier (5:30 PM), this would also be OK. See below for the Meetup specials:

    Well Cocktails $6
    Wine $5
    Draft Domestic Beers $4

    Frites $5
Loaded Frites (cheese, bacon & sour cream) $7
    Pierogies $10
    Hamburger $10
    Bruschetta $7
    Arancinis $6
    Kielbasa Sandwich $10

If you're interested in having some light bites before the show at Braddock's, please update your RSVP.

I would like to see this play, are the $20 tickets still available? If so, i will RSVP

    February 17, 2013

    • Mark

Yes, you can buy $20 tickets at the door, and the $20 seats are better (moved up) than what would have been the case a few weeks ago. We can still order discounted seats in other sections ($43.05 and $50.25) ... but we have Meetups that will be sitting in the various sections ($20, $25, $43, and $50).

Anyone wanting $20 tickets at the door should be there around 6:45 PM at the Heinz Hall Box Office so it will be a little easier depending on how many are buying at the door and want to sit together.

If you're still planning on attending the show on Feb 21, please let me know what discounted ticket price level you'd like ($25, $43, $50) or the cheapest seats $20 but since there is no discount on these, people can buy at the door.

How will I know if I have a ticket--made reservation awhile back, but am uncertain of the next thing to do, if anything. Do I just show up? The reserved seats would seem to have been gone at the time of my reservation, albeit made awhile ago. Thanks for any help!

    February 10, 2013

    • Mark

Susan -- Since there is no discount being offered on the $20 tickets, so these can be bought at the door before the performance. Here is the chart showing the available seats where you can see the normal $33 (or $25 discount Meetup) seats and the other prices
      http://trustarts.cult...
We've been concentrating on the sections where there is a discount ... and don't have too many Meetups thus far that would like to sit together at the $20 level

      February 11, 2013

    • Susan P.

Thanks, Mark. I think I'd asked for the $25 tickets though. That was my intention anyhow, and I just didn't know what to do from this point forward, i.e., show up, presuming I'll have this discount? Or pay you ahead? It's close to the show date so I want to make sure I know what to do. These are the ones I want: (copied from above: Gallery Center in the Balcony Row O 101 - 110 ten seats together at $25.00 each), but if more people come, do I assume I'm one of these 110 seats? Thanks once again. I know you're likely deluged with questions as the time nears. Susan

    Hi Mark,

I'm sure you're busy but I was wondering if it is possible to get 3 discounted tickets at $50 level to the Tuesday show on the 19th? Do I just call the box office and mention the Meet Up group or do I need to order them through the group? Thanks!

    Cathy

    February 11, 2013

    • Mark

I'll call tomorrow and see if this can be arranged.

      February 11, 2013

    • Mark

I called Group Sales and they said they can't apply the Meetup discount to another performance once it is set up ... of course, if we could get 10+ Meetup group for another night, then this might be different. So maybe in the future if another 'hot' show is coming up, perhaps we could arrange for several performance options in advance and then work towards having at least 10+ Meetups for each one where we qualify for the group discount.

Mark, I just wanted to confirm. Do you have two tickets for me?

    January 31, 2013

    • Mark

Yes, Sheri ... I have your tickets. Let me know if you're going to any other events before Feb 21. For example, there is the free Brown Bag Opera & Dance show at noon on Saturday, February 9 in the Strip District so something like this might be convenient for those that like walking around/shopping in the Strip. I'm also in the city on most nights and weekends.

I encourage everyone to meet Mark in advance to pay for and pick up their tickets (or maybe arrange with him to mail him a check, if the logistics of meeting are too difficult). Mark has been kind enough to get us this good deal and to front the money for all the tickets (close to $1,200 just for 30 tickets).

Mark, I'll email you so that we can arrange a meeting time and place. Thanks.

If you're going to some other Meetup events (including some free events, the Quantum play, etc.), we could do the exchange there.
