About the Art of Digital London monthly Meetups

This Meetup group is open to all those interested in bridging the gap between the arts and tech communities, exploring the ways that digital technologies can be implemented in cultural production with an equal focus on the creative and the organisational work involved. These are social events which are also a chance for workers within the arts community to meet in person and mingle with others from arts disciplines or professional areas outside of their usual day-to-day working community.

About Art of Digital London

Art of Digital London (AoDL) runs an online peer learning resource, regular social events, training sessions and meetings about digital strategy in culture. The programme was initiated by Arts Council England to facilitate the establishment and maintenance of a London network, which investigates the relationship between art organisations and digital technology.

The project began in September 2009 with a series of ten ‘Digital Salon & Surgeries’ - day long events where London arts administrators and producers, business and media consultants, developers, innovators and funders gathered together for conversations and show and tells. Recurring topics were the relationship between arts and technology communities and the evolving tool set used in the creation, production, distribution and marketing of artistic programmes.

Through these events a comprehensive picture of the problems and benefits of digital media began to develop and so we decided to put together an online peer learning resource - TheKnowledge -  where all the information and experiences gathered during the AoDL are compiled and synthesised.

TheKnowledge has several core areas established within the wiki so far:

• Publishing
• Video
• Archiving
• Open Source
• Audio
• Gaming
• Community & Social Media

These have been also collated into a print and eBook!

TheKnowledge’s overall objective is to use peer learning to help arts organisations and individual producers make intelligent and appropriate use of digital technology in support of their practice. It aims to focus equally on the creative and organisational work involved in cultural production and regards peer learning as the process whereby people share the valuable, hard-earned experiences they glean ‘on the job’ in a larger project of collective understanding.
