Marin Headlands III: Golden Gate Batteries

This month closer to Golden Gate Bridge the Batteries are: Hill 129, Kirby, Wagner, Spencer, and possibly Yates.; then sunset above the Bridge.   I would say it's a little more hiking and elevation gain compared to Ft. Barry and just as spectacular views of the ocean and Bay Area.  Hope you're in good shape because we'll hike from an overlook down to the beach on a steep trail. The WWII-era military batteries are abandoned concrete structures in various states of decay, rusted equipment, graffiti-tagged, etc. hidden in the landscape.  See last year's photos of the "Elvis stair". Many compositional opportunities and challenges for us photographers as you see from previous meetups.

The meet-up will consist of 2-3 stops and the ever popular “Show & Tell” part where we eat/drink/relax and show our recent UrbEx images. The schedule is shoot from 2:00-5:00p, Show & Tell 5-6p. This is our typical small nimble group for tough conditions; most should be experienced in past Urban Exploration meet-ups though first-timers are always welcomed.  If you get on a waiting list just be patient because there's always a few RSVP dropouts when nearing the take-off date. However, drop-outs within the last week are frowned upon because those on the waiting lists usually have made other plans by then. Rain reschedules meetup to following Sunday.

The sign-up sequence is: RSVP, and pay $5 meetup fee. About 7 days before meetup I will request confirmation and contact info (full legal name, cell#, emergency contact person and their tel.#) if I don't get it in 3 days you will lose your spot to those waiting. Also, please acknowledge the Release of Liability form in Discussions tab on Home page that you will sign when we meet at the initial gathering point.

Great day for photography. Fun group - didn't mind the hiking to get to interesting sites. Show & Tell was relaxing with good food and interesting photos to show.

How is the "show and tell" conducted? Should we bring a laptop or something?

Bring 1-2 prints/tablet images to show. Very informal; just to get everyone talking photography- not a critique but an introduction.

A fisheye or super-wide angle lens would be handy for the 1st and 3rd stops. I'm going to borrow or rent one.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
