ArtKlub is a group of friends who are local Northern Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington DC artists that meet weekly for fun, self-education and encouragement, and to obtain critiques and try vet new ideas.
Sometimes we're pencil to paper, sometimes we're discussion and goofing off.
We are there to create, inspire, and share. We help hold each other accountable to making deadlines for commissions, when asked to do so.
This is not like book club, sipping tea and having intellectual discussions. We have no planned topic. No set agendas.
The group is receptive to new comers that would like to join us and participate.
Generally speaking, bring something to draw with, something to draw on, and something to show.
Talent within the group has includes cartoonists, illustrators, painters, calligraphers, photographers, 3D modelers, authors, and more.
A word of warning for those that are easily offended, this might not be your thing.
Be aware that sometimes illustrations and reference material may exceed the PG-13 rating, and that table conversations may contain innuendo or colorful language, especially when constructing dialog.
That said, we recognize we are in a public place, and we are very kid friendly, doing our best to shelter children from those portions when present.
Kids are most certainly welcome at the table; we often have extra drawing supplies to share, often do sketches for them, too.
Occasionally ArtKlub will engage in spontaneous outings, ranging from visits to comic book shops, lunch afterward, to field-trips out to the scenic country for inspiration and fun.
Part of our group culture is to convey our activities, the progress of our members, and show off our art -- as such, we chronicle participants and their creations in candid individual and group photos that are posted on the Internet. We feel this helps newcomers see what we're about, so this isn't subject to change. Be aware that you, and portions of your artwork, especially in unfinished stages, could be photographed from time to time as we encourage talented artists making art and sharing ideas. We're very proud of our members' weekly accomplishments. It's very much how we connect with one another as well for the members who can't make it.
ArtKlub often meets each Sunday at the Atlanta Bread Company in Sterling, VA near Dulles Town Center Mall roughly around 9:30am and ending roughly around 11:30am.
If you have an interest in art, wish to draw, learn, or critique, or just like great conversation, come join us!
