“DECORATED OBJECT ART COMPETITION”
Sponsored by the Village of Arlington Heights Arts Commission at Frontier Days on July 7th
The Village’s Arts Commission is looking for participants who have a creative flair and an
interest in having a lot of fun! We are hosting the 7th annual “Decorated Object Art
Competition” for all ages that will be showcased at the annual Frontier Days Festival on July
7th at Recreation Park. Wastebaskets may be decorated or created by a group or an
individual and participants should bring their Wastebasket to Recreation Park on July 7th.
The competition will be held within the park near Belmont Avenue and Miner between 11:30
AM and 2:00 PM. For more information contact Derek Mach, Arts Commission Liaison, at
Criteria for selecting the winners includes: artistic impression, originality, quality and
aesthetic appeal. The winners for each category will receive a prize.
Eligibility: Open to all of any age. An entry could be designed by an individual or by a group.
Specifications: Wastebaskets of any size or material will be accepted. No limit on number
of entries and one entry form per Wastebasket. See reverse side for some examples.
Setup Date and Time:
Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Recreation Park (Near Belmont Ave. and Miner Street)
Check-in: 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Judging: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Peoples Choice Award voting ends: 2:45 PM
Award Ceremony: 3:00 PM

New This Year: The title of the Art Competition has changed to “Decorated Object
Art Competition”, thus allowing the Arts Commission the opportunity to change the
object each year. Suggestions from the Community are encouraged as to what
objects should be considered for future Art Competitions.
Application Form: Application forms will be available at the park on July 7th. Forms will be
completed the day of the event.
Awards: There will be five categories, with two prizes (first and second place) for all
categories except the People’s Choice Award, for which there will be only one prize. The
People’s Choice Award lets anyone vote for their favorite wastebasket. The votes for the
People’s Choice Award will be accepted until 2:45 PM. A jury of fine arts and crafts
professionals will select the winners in the other categories. All winners will be announced at
3:00 PM. Awards will consist of Downtown Arlington Heights gift cards. The categories
People’s Choice Award; Adult (18 and over); Youth (12-17);
Child (11 and younger); Family and Friends (more than one individual working together)
Deadline of Submission: No later than 2:00 PM on July 7th at Recreation Park.
