About Second Harvest: Since its inception in 1974, Second Harvest has become one of the largest food banks in the nation, providing food to an average of nearly one quarter of a million people each month. The Food Bank mobilizes individuals, companies, and community partners to connect people to the nutritious food they need. Nearly half of the food distributed is fresh produce. In fiscal year 2013 (July 2012 - June 2013), we distributed nearly 52 million pounds of nutritious food to low-income people in need in every zip code of our service area from Daly City to Gilroy, and from the ocean to the bay. We truly value your time and strive to start your volunteer experience as scheduled. Please plan to arrive no sooner than 10 minutes before and no later than 10 minutes after your scheduled sorting shift time. (Specific to evenings and weekend food sorts:to keep our warehouse and volunteers secure, we are unable to accommodate late arrivals as registration closes 20 minutes past the schedule sorting shift time.)

Time: Please arrive 10 minutes before shift that begins 6 p.m.
What to Wear: The dress code at the Food Bank is casual and comfortable. No shorts and no tank tops are permitted. Closed toe shoes and long pants are required. Please leave all valuables in the trunk of your cars. No purses or backpacks.

Age: The minimum age to volunteer at the Food Bank is 14 years of age. For any volunteers under the age of 18, both Youth Permission Form and Volunteer Agreement are required, and a parent or guardian over the age of 21 must accompany those youth between the age of 14 and 15 years of age.
