We decided to start this group to create an opportunity to meet new, creative people, plus help out a very deserving non-profit organization by volunteering to help- Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center. CUARC is totally run by volunteers. Some come once, some once in awhile, and some help out once a week or more.
This meet-up population will be focused on coming together and sharing our talents in a positive way--whether that be painting (artful, or home-improvement), gardening, organizing a fundraising event, decorating, ect. We're looking to find out what would most interest you. What talents or new skills would you like to explore?
Most of our volunteer meet-ups will focus on helping at the Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center in North Lawndale (off the pink line at Kedzie stop). For those unable to head out that way, sometimes, we'll also offer other opportunities to meet in different areas of Chicago. In addition to volunteer meet-ups, we're planning to have some social events at CUARC too. Want to help with or attend an exhibit, check out an arts booth space event, or have a BBQ potluck when the weather is warm? We have a great outdoor gardens. The possibilities are endless!
There's really no "type" of person that this group is seeking. We want people looking to try new things, meet new people, and spend a few afternoons helping a worthy cause. Are you looking to meet great people in Chicago in a non-bar setting? Do you want to focus some of your energy in a direction that makes you feel good? Would you like to have a creative outlet? Join us and let's make it happen!
