The thing Artists and Activists have in common is a passion for their work. I hope to mesh these passions in this group. Art, political and social activism have long been happy bedfellows. Think of Picasso’s Guernica Night, Susan Crile’s Abu Graib series, and more locally to Connecticut, the Cycle of Terror and Tragedy, September 11 by Graydon Parrish housed at the New Britain Museum of American Art. As they say, a picture says a thousand words and what better way to convey these kinds of messages! But we won’t limit ourselves to the visual image. This group welcomes visual artists, musicians, writers, playwrights, actors, yes artists of every stripe. And, of course, activists of every stripe too. Since we’ll want bipartisan support on any of our actions, we’ll need to be creative in presenting them to keep all legislators open to our work. Our first action will involve GMO labeling. We’ll be working with GMO Free CT on this. I envision plays performed at green fairs, art shows centered on labeling and GMOs. The sky is the limit on what we can do. Let’s get creative and change the world, or at least our state for the better.
