This meeting very informative and helpful. I particularly liked what the gentlemen had to say regarding his experience and perspective as a former president of an IT business. I think there was a lot of potential for change in what he had to share and I would love to see his ideas develop.

Hi all, for those who weren't able to attend the last meetup here's a quick update. An important distinction about the new Commission is that it's a program of the KS Dept of Commerce - whereas the Kansas Arts Commission was its own agency. The Kansas Creative Industries Commission announced 2 new grant programs: http://www.kansascommerce.com/index.aspx?NID=541 They've also drafted a new statewide strategic plan & will hold public input mtgs throughout the state this spring....we'll keep you posted on the mtg date/time for NE Kansas. As far as support from the NEA, the Commission made their initial application in October. Working with the NEA revised the application in January. The final application is due in May. Should they receive NEA support it won't be until FY2014. The NEA would match the amount appropriated by the state. Stay tuned for more details. You can also contact the Commission's director Peter Jasso at (785)[masked]

I wish I could go to this, but I'll be performing out of the country. I've read the info put out by the KCAIC and wonder if any of it was written with the arts in mind. I was listed on the KS Arts Commission Touring Roster from 1994 until its demise. I'd hate to see arts in education programs (and other arts initiatives) completely go away in our state. I've been writing to my legislators about arts funding--hope all the other members of the meetup will do the same. We need all the voices we can get.
