Not quite the repertoire I prefer, but I'glad I went! I enjoyed it mostly.

Liked theRavel piece very much. Yes I agree with Carolyn, did not care for that piece either, but like to keep an open mind to experimental or conceptual work, interesting....enjoyed the chance to chat at Blue State. Thanks to all for coming.

Leo B. was weird, irritating, experimental gone awry but I like diversity, diversions, and real alternatives and Zappa only rarely. So, while he wasn't exactly my cup of tea, and I would have wanted to hear a standard guitar solo of Asturias or some other standard piece and enjoyed the heck out of Jindřich Feld, and Verdery's own pieces and the alt arrangement of Verdery's . The thing is: with classical concerts you're always going to have a piece where you say "gee, I can't wait 'til this section/piece is over with/or just shoot me now". It's a requirement of these concerts, I think it's de rigueur and if something is set up where the event is of one type of standard and took no chances, I'd probably be bored. I would hate to see a concert that would only appeal to one type of listener.

I liked the Verdery pieces the most, and enjoyed the duets with bassoon, flute, and oboe. The one I didn't like was by Leo Brouwer, the clucking and tapping and other nonsense is just more of that weirdness for its own sake that has infected so much modern music.

If anyone wants coffee, we can meet at Blue State Coffee before the show at 6:30. Just around the corner from Sprague Hall.

I am unable to meet you for coffee and may be running a little late. I will see you there.

Hopefully, if I'm not running too late will be at Blue State. I want to work my way down their tea list and their pastry list. Potentially +1 not sure.

    Most likely can make it.

Is the charge for this really just $1.00?

    May 6, 2013

    • Cathy M

Check the venue details for time date and cost..., all details are listed in the description, (FREE). That dollar you are seeing is the monthly meetup cost if you attend in the course of a month.

Cathy says "If anyone wants coffee, we can meet at Blue State Coffee before the show at 6:30. Just around the corner from Sprague Hall."

Cathy that is the great spirit of a group like "meet up" but we'll be pushing to get there before 8 because rushing with my son from his piano lesson ending at 7:30. Oh well.

My son and I go to a hundred of these recitals every year anyway, but it will be interesting to go to one as my first "meet up" experience.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
