Plein air painting - June 29 AM - Fairfield, CT

Connecticut offers many wonderful places to plein air paint, and so this

meetup will help facilitate taking advantage of this.  For a small state, we

have lush fields, rolling hills, scenic trails, the shoreline - and more!

Lets get out and paint or draw!

The shoreline is one of my favorites.  In years past, I have painted within my

vehicle on cold but sunny, vibrant winter days!   This plein air meetup will be at a

beautiful marsh area bordering Fairfield and Bridgeport.  There is a land

trust on the Fairfield side of Ash Creek.  See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Creek_(Connecticut)

Meeting date: Saturday June 29, 2013

Meeting time: 9:30am

Meeting location:  There is a Dunkin Donuts at:

593 Post Rd, Fairfield, CT 06824

Plein air setting: At 9:45am, we can proceed to the public land trust

area with very ample parking.

How to get to the plein air setting: At Dunkin Donuts indicated above

1) take a right onto Post Road 2) take your first right onto Old Post Road

3) take an immediate left onto Turnkey Rd 4) Proceed straight until one

encounters the Guard hut for Jennings Beach and Marina 5) Explain

to the guard you are going to the land trust to the left, at the end.

6) the guard will let you through 7) take a left 8) go to the end where there

is ample parking and places to sit and paint.  It is free to use the land trust!

Plein air painting: 10am to at least 12 noon

After plein air: Return to the Post Rd.  Grab a meal at Circle Diner. Circle Diner

is on the Post Road, as one leaves the Old Post Road and takes a right.

What to bring: A portable chair is almost required.  Media of your choice (pencil, charcoal,

acrylic, oil, etc).  A light jacket in case its a bit chilly.

Other notes: Late comers are welcome!  Just follow directions above.  Also any feedback

is welcome since this is a group activity and should be enjoyed by all!  Please suggest additional dates/times for other plein air sessions!

I had a great time, although it was scorching. Everyone was very nice. We talked of painting during sunset next time. Ray was great.

Hi, I arrived late... The GPS brought me to the wrong town even! But I finally found it, however I did not find the group until around 11:45 am. By then I assumed everyone would be packing up. You may have seen me... I was wearing the big straw hat. Sorry I didn't announce myself, I knew I wouldn't be able to go out to lunch with the group, and was hot and tired, so I wasn't really in the mood for socializing. I'd like to come next time. I hope the plein aire is a regular thing, and that you try northern Fairfield county, or Litchfield County sometime. I understand it's a long way from New Haven. Great idea!

Hi everyone, I have good weather so I assume its good on the coast. So the plein air is still on! Given the hot humid weather recently, maybe bring an additional cold water for a friend. Further sunscreen and bug repellent might be in order. The later is a good idea because the location is in Fairfield County which has lots of deer and ticks/lyme. Certainly practice common sense. Ticks. Eeek! I had Lyme disease. Not fun. I'll make sure to spray myself well. See you there.

I think there will be a next time! Maybe industrial shorelines around Sage or West Haven? Or the New Haven Green?
