meet in the front area of the gallery at 5:30.

City Lights is pleased to present our encaustics show, “Wax is a Verb,” April 12- May 19. Opening reception 5:30-8:30 Thursday, April 12. Meet the artists and enjoy a honey sampling courtesy of Red Bee Carla Marina, Connecticut beekeeper and artist.

The encaustic method is an ancient painting medium that had become virtually forgotten until noteable artists Diego Rivera and Jasper Johns worked with it in the last century. This exhibit will present a sampling of the unending possibilities of encaustic art and its basic component bees wax, as painting medium, adhesive and sculpting material. Among those exhibiting are some of the most prominent artists working in this medium. Exhibiting artists Include: Vincent Baldassano, Nina Bentley, Michelle Beaulieu, Binnie Birstein, Sue Czark, Leslie Giuliani, Nash Hyon, Patrick Kennedy, Red Bee Carla Marina, Laura Moriarty, Nancy Natale, Gay Schempp, Kathleen Scranton, Peggy Weiss, Gregory Wright.
