A Conversation with Sebastian Chan of the Powerhouse Museum

Sebastian Chan is currently the Head of Digital Services & Research at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia. His web team is responsible for the Museum's online presence, a large suite of experimental projects, and the Museum's collection database, which has won several awards. He is known as a cultural sector specialist in social media and Web 2.0 applications, as well as web analytics.

At the Powerhouse Seb also runs the internationally popular Fresh + New blog covering issues and new ideas around digital media and museums at www.powerhousemuseum.com/dmsblog/.

The conversation will be led by Koven Smith, producer of interactive technologies at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and an adjunct professor of Information Technology for the Visual Arts at NYU.

Topics will include:
1) Mobile tech – use of QR codes, location-aware tech, mobile tours
2) Semantic web
3) Social media and how to discover ‘actionable insights.'


The discussion will be followed by an opportunity to network and mingle. The Roger Smith hotel will provide a fully stocked CASH bar and a menu of small plates.
