Ars Nova Meetup

This location is shown only to members

In lieu of this group's wide range of talents and interests within the intersection of arts and technology, I've decided to ask a sampling of members to share their work with us.

The list of presenters is as follows:

Christina Ray of Glowlab Gallery
Manish Vora of Artlog
Barry Hoggard of ArtCal, ArtCat and Culture Pundits
Victor Samra of MoMA
Amanda McCormick of The Film Society of Lincoln Center
Jaki Levy of Arrow Root Media
Luke Crawford of Muxtape
David Garrison of Indaba Music
Michael Sabat of Mobile Commons

(speaker bios and links can be found here: www.juliaxgulia.com)

Presentations will begin promptly at 7:15pm, lasting 5 min each, and will be followed by an opportunity to mix and mingle.

Also, the Ars Nova theater comes equipped with a fully stocked bar, but it's CASH ONLY, so please make sure to visit an ATM beforehand.

Due to the theater's capacity, there is an RSVP limit for this event. Apologies to those who cannot attend. There is a waitlist, however, and an additional 10 or 15 spots may become available closer to the event, so please sign up if you're interested in attending.

Really excited for the presentations--met a lot of great people doing interesting things at the inaugural meetup. Kudos to Julia for rounding up a wide variety of arts & tech professionals and hobbyists.

I was really pleasantly surprised. The meetup up had enough structure to be focused on the topic of social media and technology as is applied with cultural instutions big, medium and small ... YET ... there was so much room to elevate the interest in the meetup for people to ask great questions and later socialize about their experiences and take on the industry. But what was most impressive to me is that in comparison to the NRF and IR events that I attend (and have even had the pleasure to be included on a panel) as well as other ecommerce seminars I also attend --- this was like walking into the future with super -bright- innovated -risk taking -out of the box- minds --- and that was uber refreshing.

Great line up of speakers and organizations! It was packed with interesting material and it inspired me to run off and see if I could take what I learned and apply it to the organizations I'm involved with. Julia did a great job organizing and hosting.

was great to have people hip me to different art and music opportunities all in one compact event. the idea of limiting presentations to 5 minutes was a great idea. it never got boring.

Great Meetup, Interesting & Engaging presenters with alot of knowledge about their topics and social media strategies. Stellar opportunity to meet people in the art & culture world and share ideas about projects and marketing

I'd put this almost at "great". Fairly good space for presentations, good mix of tech and arts people. The presentations were a mixed bag, but this was just the first meetup with presentations at all, so I'll assume they'll improve over time. To that point, I think the group will probably tire of "how I used technology" presentations on the arts side. There probably need to be more "what's available" on the tech side and also some arts people "looking for something that will do X". A mix of all that would get people thinking.

Fabulous! Organized and informative. I had to run off pretty quickly, but the people I met there seemed sharp, creative. . .all the things you'd want from members of such a group. . .
  • Barry Hoggard
I enjoyed presenting to a smart group of people and my fellow presenters were all impressive. I felt pretty inspired after hearing them all speak. I met a number of people that I had wanted to meet but had never seen in person.

The presentations this evening covered a wide range of the cultural milieu from visual art, museums, galleries, music and performance art. The peer discussions provided technology professionals with genuine opportunities to meet each other and spark new conversations and collaborations. I congratulate Julia for hosting a successful event!
