I'm not sure yet. My friend sent me a link to this event which interests me as someone in the museum profession. I guess I will find out if this group and I have more in common beyond Monday, March 25 :)
I've worked in two, small niche museums in the past four years. Smaller museums are trying to create competitive exhibitions in this overfilled New York art scene, and as a result they often take themselves so seriously. They're more interested in the academic audience than the general audience. I love places like New Museum and the Museum of Moving Image because they have interactive exhibitions that allow their audiences to feel at home in a space that is too often sterile. I am eager to hear suggestions from your panel on ways to make museums and cultural organizations in general more playful and audience friendly.
