The Mountains around Grants NM: Hike, Paint, Draw, Inspire, Enjoy...

Ranger Jenn holds these events EVERY THIRD Sunday in the Grants, New Mexico area.

Meet at the Northwest New Mexico Visitor Center (NWNMVC), in Grants NM, at 9:00 am. Then we will caravan to a different place within the National Conservation Area each Sunday, where all artistic minded folks can set up their easels and let nature inspire. There can be as little or as much walking involved as you wish.

Or you can join  Jenn on a short walk for a stunning view. Total roundtrip milage each Sunday should not be more than about 1 and 1/2 miles. It's more about being outside creating art, than about hard core hiking.

Bring your own art supplies: paint, canvas, pencils, or sketch books. We plan to finish by noon or 1 depending on weather and the feelings of the group. Artists are encouraged to linger if they wish.

Dress for changing weather, layered clothing, closed toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks.  We are meeting at the Northwest New Mexico Visitor Center, The building itself is amazing and if weather is poor, we can sit in the huge windows and let the view inspire. We had a wonderful showcase of our collective works to celebrate our 1 year aniversary of holding this event. I would like to do that again at the 2 year anniversary in March 2013! :)

Please contact Ranger Jenn @ ([masked]) if you would like more details or directions! And... on the day of, please call Ranger Jenn at the Northwest New Mexico Visitor Center [masked])

Hey gang, We at the BLM have been offering these art walks for over a year and a half now, and to keep the mommentum going dispite logistical issues, we have switched to the Third Sunday of every month. I hope you can make it :)

Hey Guys! Since this month's art walk is the day before Earth Day, I thought we could do a kinda earth day like theme. We are always outside, but maybe we can focus on extra beautiful areas, OR areas that need a little attention. And... if you are so inclined we could bring some gloves and give those areas a helping hand. ( I'm thinking before and after photos) what do you think?

I've posted the photo I made of the front of "La Ventana Natural Arch" on Jan. 19. This Meetup was canceled but I left before the message was posted. I think I got a nice snap of it and in this version I painted it in Corel Painter 12.2. so the trip was very well worth it! Here's the link to it.

That is a beautiful photo Jerry! Would you be interested in printing it out and hanging it in the show?

Thanks Ranger Jenn! Yes, that is my plan and I was thinking about painting the one from the inside looking out too.

Oh, sorry. Yes I did mean for April. Wildflower hunt sounds terrific. Really just visiting any part of the conservation area that is a bit off the beaten path is terrific. I've always like El Mal Pais, but the more I see beyond the pullouts and trails through the lava, the more interested I become in it. What is your favorite place out there? I find the rangers to be the best resources for all the REALLY good info.

Hey Rachel, are you asking for the April meetup? To be honest, I don't know yet, all these things tend to be weather dependent. That being said however, April is usually a great time to get out for a bit more of a hike. If there is rain between now and then we could go on a wildflower hunt, or out to a homestead if it's dry. It's kinda up in the air. Is there something you would specifically like to do/see? I take requests. :)

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
