Road to Mastery Beginners/Intermediate Class

The Road to Mastery Beginners/Intermediate Class starts on February 1.

This class teaches beginners, 0-800 in rating, how to play chess and helps intermediate players improve. The basic procedure for helping students learn is to break down chess principles into their basic elements and keep going over them in a structured, progressive way. Understanding is emphasized over memorization. Students are encouraged not to move pieces aimlessly but to coordinate them according to a plan. Student participation is very important in these classes.

Instructor for this class is veteran teacher, Scott Knoke. From 2004 to 2011 the instructor was a freelance editor/proofreader/indexer for Random House Information Group for books on chess and other subjects. Earlier, he was an associate editor of Chess Life magazine.
