This is an introduction into the fundamentals of this dynamic, unique system of yoga founded by Sri Pattabhi Jois. We will work together to develop the practice in a safe, fun environment with attention to the more subtle details such as merging the breath and gaze with the movements of the postures. We will also look at the other 7 limbs of this system. Ashtanga means 8 limbs, and they all definitely factor into the effectiveness and joy of this practice. The hope here is to encourage an appropriate foundation and a sense of community that leads to a daily, injury-free practice. Opening the doors for more life energy and genuine smiles....and then some.
My name is Phillip McVean and I have studied with David Williams, David Swenson, and Andrew Eppler, and continue to further my knowledge of Ashtanga through daily practice, workshops, and custom upholstery.
We get together and practice traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga postures. We will begin with a detailed look into the foundation of the entire practice which is the Sun Salutations A & B. At that point we will progress according to traditional sequencing of poses, ability, and interest.
