Kung Fu.......Tai Chi........Yoga

Shaolin Monk Wang Bo has created a unique form of yoga called Hungrymonk Yoga™ which combines the power of Shaolin Kung Fu, the fluidity of Tai Chi with the Zen of Yoga. To celebrate, the martial arts studio Shaolin Temple Torrance will offer free classes for all ages on Saturday, November 2nd, 2013 from 11am to 2pm. Any Meetup members that attend are eligible for 50% discount on classes for the first month plus you can enter to win more free classes and a massage from Remedy Pharm, a holistic pharmacy/store.

Hungrymonk Yoga™ is based on the Buddhist principles taught at the Shaolin Temple in China where Wang Bo trained for 11 years. Unlike other yoga, metal swords and wooden staffs are used in conjunction with Kung Fu and Thai Chi moves. The swords and staffs represent two of the five elements, Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth, thought to be essential for developing strength and maintaining balance of mind, body and spirit. For Wang Bo, who is both a monk and Shaolin Kung Fu master, combing these different disciplines to create Hungrymonk Yoga™ was a natural progression and way to provide the flexibility of yoga and the intensity of martial arts in a single class.

At age 8 Wang Bo’s father enrolled him at the Shaolin Temple, the Buddhist monastery in China considered to be the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu. At age 11, he began performing with the Shaolin Performing Arts Troupe and toured the world for three years performing for such dignitaries as Vladmir Putin, Queen Elizabeth and King of Spain Juan Carlos. At age 20, with the blessing of the Shaolin Temple, Wang Bo moved to Los Angeles, California where he is currently owner and instructor at Shaolin Temple Torrance.

Shaolin Temple Torrance, a main branch of the original Shaolin Temple in China, opened in 2011 and offers classes in Hungrymonk Yoga™, Thai Chi, Vinyasa Yoga, Buddhism and Kung Fu for both adults and children.
