Gorgeous Scenic Hike to Smuggler's Cove Sea Caves + Secluded Beach Lunch Picnic

This is by far the most beautiful, scenic hike you'll be on in the local area. The view is outstanding especially overlooking the secluded beach cove and you'll get the cool, crisp ocean breeze all around you. Once we hike to the cove with the sea caves, you'll be literally standing on an outdoor aquarium teaming with fish, crabs, sea urchins, and many other sea creatures and plants. We'll find a relaxing spot on the secluded beach cove area and have a lunch picnic and enjoy the ocean air.

This is my first meetup experience and it was great! I didn't put on any sun block and my face was as red as an apple at the end of the hike. Rather than that, everything was perfect!

I had a fantastic time. The view is breathtaking and people are warm, friendly, and generous. Great getting chatting and getting to know some of you. Thanks a bunch fellows for your helping hands with the ladies thru steep slopes. Magnificent job, Jay and fellow organizers for making the hike a fun-filled, fitness for the entire group.

Anyone else from KTown need a ride? If so, contact me right away. You can park inside my building and hopefully Paul can pick us up at my place. I'll find out if Paul has extra room but in case he does, just contact me if you prefer getting a ride from KTown.

And one other thing, we'll encounter lots of sea creatures like crabs, clams, and sea urchins. I understand Asians love to eat seafood picked fresh from the land but please do not take any home with you for a low budget Boiling Crab experience. These are protected species and strictly enforced so be extremely mindful of this.

Everyone, a gentle reminder for the hike tommorrow, at the very least bring a hat, sunglasses, warm clothes (it gets colder near the crashing waves by the sea caves), and most importantly wear comfortable shoes (very slipperly in certain areas when stepping on sea rocks). Pay extra heed to these necessities to be well prepared for the elements we'll face at times along this hike. And yes, bring lunch and maybe something extra to share with others.

Hi Jay, double checking, is the whole route (to and back) 5 miles or one way 5 miles (to and back = 10 miles)? Sorry for being hassle.

  • Jay

Sharing a ride is completely optional. But I strongly recommend riding with someone that lives close by you. It saves gas and reduces the parking hassle. So please contact any drivers in your area to arrange your own ride with that person.

hi Jay, I was wondering if we can get your contact info just in case?

Fyi, I've hiked here before and I've seen dolphins and whales. I don't know if they are migrating right now but it is very cool! Hopefully we get lucky.

Although you will definitely get a workout, this is not a grueling, heat intensive hike so 2 bottles of water should be fine. But I strongly recommend hiking shoes with very good traction because the sea rocks can be very slippery with water and especially wet moss. And bring a light jacket since the sea breeze from the crashing waves can be a bit chilly.

With so many people we're going to have a great time out on a secluded area by the ocean. Now we need to discuss logistics on most practical way to get everyone there. I need volunteer drivers. And the way it is going to work, if you choose to share a ride, is that the driver will get paid $5.00 from each passenger in his car. Given the high price of gas and the service provided, I think this is entirely fair. Any drivers that would like to volunteer, email me your pickup spot so I can post it.

Hi Jay, How's the parking there? I think I will dirve by myself---cant find a car pool :(

    September 14, 2010

  • Jay

We'll take the direct, more scenic path for about 5 miles long. With lunch and taking photos of the gorgeous area, expect about 3 to 4 hours depending on how long people take their time eating and looking around.

Hey Jay! How many miles is the hike? and what time do you think we'll be done? I have some stuff going on in the evening...:)

We will have the softball game at a later date. For now, before it gets too cool, we'll have our fun and relaxation on this beautiful hike by the ocean. As for the picnic, make sure you bring out your own lunch and additional food that you would like to share with the group. In this group, we love to share and plus a variety of food taste better.

    September 1, 2010

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
