Event Update: Despite some cancellation, we finally have 7 people. The game plan is that, we will meet at the Korean noodle shop and eat light dinner and head out to Disney Hall. We plan to ride metro subway, but some of us want to bring a car. You are welcome to bring a car. If you have ridden a subway before, then you are welcome to carpool with other person. If you have not, I strongly recommend that you try subway. Once get there, we'll have some wine and cheese to share and do a brief tour of Disney Hall. There is a secret picnic area that not many public know about. I'll share the insight. Other than that, I look forward to seeing all of you.
Did you ever heard Alison Balsom? She is a virtuoso trumpeter, with beauty and brass! The sound of trumpet blasting through the hall, it is the site to be seen. I invite the music lover to experience classical music with an action.
We'll meet in Ktown for light dinner and head out to Disney Hall. We'll take metro to Civic Center, which is about 10 minutes away from Normandie station and about 3-5 minutes walk to the Disney Hall. Hope you can join in for this wonderful evening. TOVEY: Songs of the Paradise Saloon
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 5
About This Performance
The blazing brass in Shostakovich’s famous Fifth is only one of the reasons that it is his most popular symphony. Another is the finale, which raises your heart rate several beats with its inexorable intensity.
Gregarious Bowl favorite Bramwell Tovey says of his new jazz-tinged trumpet concerto: “…the dialog that the trumpet has is like the conversations that people have in a pub.”
An extravaganza of brass.
Charismatic British trumpeter Alison Balsom, Gramophone Artist of the Year, in Tovey’s whimsically titled concerto.
NOTICE 1: If payment is required for this event, please send your payment IMMEDIATELY as requested. If I do not receive your payment promptly, you will be moved to "not attending" without further explanation and without recourse. Your future rsvp may be affected by your tardiness or non-payment. I experienced several events that I purchased tickets based on sign up, but participants either did not pay or cancel last minutes and I end up holding tickets. So please submit your payment promptly because I have already done so. Submit your payment via paypal - friend option to [masked].
NOTICE 2: By reserving your spot to this event, you agree that photographs may be taken of your image and such photographs may be posted on meetup site(s). I don't want to hear, "Oh that picture looks bad, can you pull down?" That picture may be the only picture for a group picture.
NOTICE 3: Ideally attendance will be gender balanced. Priority will be given to a prior participants of concerts and positive contributor to a group.
NOTICE 4: I may charge more or less than a ticket value. Example for charging more is like UCLA football game, where I have to buy mini package to get these tickets. Example for charging less than face value is like Utah game against 'SC or Pre-season basketball game. There was no/less demand for these events, so I charged less than a ticket price. Another example could be Perlman's concert on November 2nd because I have to attend friends' birthday party.
