Learn to Paraglide at a Gorgeous, Outdoor Training Hill in Santa Barbara

  • No location was chosen

  • Paragliding looks so much fun, and this people from all over the world come to this hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands to paraglide!
  • Intro Paragliding Lesson

Typical Time: FULL DAY (6 hours)

Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate. Student pilots need to run at a jog in order to launch and land.

Cost: Since this is a full day of training and practice runs, expect the cost to run at least $180. I will shop around for a group discount to find a better deal.

Paragliding includes: All necessary equipment, knowledeable instructors and necessary shuttle. Students should bring sneakers for footwear. Light cotton pants, jeans or any athletic pants are recommended.

The One Day Paragliding Lesson includes all equipment, instruction, and rides back to launch (no hiking). We start the day with an introduction to the equipment.  This is a sport where you get to have fun right away instead of being bogged down by lecture and theory.  We practice inflating and controlling the wing on the ground. We learn the launch sequence, and steering skills before introducing the element of flight. Students enjoy working on ground handling and controlling the glider. After we have good ground handling skills, your instructor will go over the basic flight plan as we watch other pilots demonstrate what a solo flight looks like.  All solo flights are radio-supervised and entirely self paced. Before launching, instructor and student recap the flight plan and landing procedure. Then you’re off on your first flight!

After landing, a company van will be down to pick you up and bring you to the top of the hill for more flying. Your instructor supervises you on the radio during your flight into the landing zone. As you progress we will introduce new concepts to help you improve your technique. Our world class training hill is famous, and people come from all over the world to paraglide in Santa Barbara at this perfect location overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands.

Hey Jay! There is paragliding out in La Jolla (San Diego area). You can check it out & compare which deal you can get the best. :)

Ok. Just checking, cause I saw that the zozi deal was at Santa Barbara too, and wasn't too sure of all the details of what you had in mind. But thanks for staying on top of things!

I believe you get what you pay for. Just like our white water rafting trip, we can still find great deals. But we don't have to sacrifice the overall experience of the trip and especially our safety by going with low budget places. I say get the most out of trying out a new activity by doing at least a full day, not merely 2 hours of teaser time that is even more wasteful when you consider the time and gas it takes to even travel out there. But I do have to say, I like some ideas they have.

Paul, thanks for sharing that. However, I want to do paragliding the right way, not the cheap way. This was something that also came up with our rafting trip where Curi told me about a Groupon deal for less than $20 to taste a hint of white water rafting. However, our group spent at least 6x that low amount to do a real white water rafting trip for a full day with a reputable white water rafting company that made safety the highest priority.
