If you're searching for some great Taiwanese dumplings, then look no further than Din Tai Fung in Arcadia. This place is best known for their Xiao Long Bao or soup dumplings. Xiao Long Bao's are traditionally filled with pork, although other meat variations such as minced crabs, seafood and vegetables are also used. The soup dumplings are created by wrapping pieces of meat along with its meat aspic inside the dumpling skin, then steaming the dumplings which melts the meat aspic to create the juicy soup-like texture that has popularized this Chinese delectable. Din Tai Fung is not limited to just amazing dumplings. They also serve other delightful Chinese appetizers such as steamed baby bok choy, fried chicken noodles, and various kinds of soup and bao.
Din Tai Fung also has the good fortune of being situated right across from JJ Bakery, a well-known Chinese bakery in SGV that could easily stand alone as its own meetup event. If you've never tried Chinese bakery, you do not want to miss this event. The white, soft and fluffy texture--that almost melts in your mouth--that characterizes many Chinese baked goods truly distinguish them from their Western counterparts. I also like the baked goods at JJ's because they're not too sweet.
Similar to my first event, I would like to keep the size of this event relatively small. I'm going to limit the RSVP to 8 people (4 guys and 4 girls), members only and new members will get priority on the RSVP list. I may increase the RSVP list to 10 people if there is enough interest. Hope to see you all there next Saturday!
