How would you like to set yourself up for a great workout in a beautiful, green park with waterfalls and streams, in the middle of OC, and feel like your miles away in the wilderness?

Well, here's your chance. Santiago Oaks has great hiking trails (and dog friendly) that has trails going through hills and tree groves all the way to Irvine Park.

And there are lots of wildlife roaming around, from rabbits, quails, parrots, coyotes, foxes, mountain lions, and deer.

And did I mention the park was gorgeous with its romantic, quiet, and relaxing setting?

And this is one of the few parks that has REALLY CLEAN BATHROOMS!

So come out, enjoy the serenity along with the scenery, and have a great workout!

i may get crucified for saying this but i'm glad for the heat. sure it was warm, but it also nicely thinned the group to a manageable 30+ and kept away flakes; win/win in my book. really great catching up w/ old friends and meeting new quality ppl.

Great workout everyone! We hiked about 4.5 miles through blazing heat on some tough slopes. Definitely not an easy hike but everyone stuck through it and burned some major calories! And even better, we always have such a fantastic group of guys and gals come out for our hikes. What a blast!

carpool from Alhambra, Monterey park or Pasadena?

    August 10, 2012

About 2 miles north, there is Yogurtland. We'll get some frozen yogurt after this hike to cool down! There is also a Corner Bakery in that same shopping plaza if anyone wants to grab something light. These are just suggestions and are entirely optional.

How about is anyone going by The Jamboree Center 2730 Alton Parkway Guppy House in Irvine? That would be a great place maybe to meet to carpool?

    August 9, 2012

  • Jason Y.

Debating whether or not to go since it will be really hot this weekend. If I go, might be interested in carpooling with others in Torrance / Southbay area.

Oh, I might have to back out due to the really hot weather then. Thanks for the update!

  • TRACEY N.

Would someone please pick me up @ Main and FW22/FW5 area? I dont want to take up a parking spot. Thanks.

    August 8, 2012

  • Corey

Parking is $5 on the weekends and $3 during the weekday. Bring crisp dollar bills or quarters for the automated gate.

    August 6, 2012

    • Jay

Again everyone, I would strongly recommend sharing a ride. Please find out from others living near your area for sharing a ride.

Hi Sandy! This is a 5.6 mile loop with less than a 1000 ft. of elevation. The hike time should take no more than 3 hours at a leisurely pace. This trail is considered easy to moderate.

    • Vincent

How steep is the trail? How would you compare the level of difficulty compared to the hike near Palos Verdes a couple of weeks ago?

      August 5, 2012

  • Ankur

I see some pictures of water. Is there any chance of getting wet on this hike at all? Bring water shoes or are our feet staying dry?

    August 4, 2012

  • Sau

I think I should be able to keep up this time. The mountain lions will be a good motivation.

    August 1, 2012

  • Jay

I say we bring our own lunch and snacks. There is no need for sleep deprivation trying to make this an early hike. I would prefer an earlier hike when it's cooler in the morning but I think for this event people are more inclined to sleep in later. Parking shouldn't be an issue. But again, it's always better to share a ride if you can.

  • Ankur

Being a small hike, heat shouldn't be too much of a problem.. But, should we start this hike ~8AM instead so we can be done by lunch, or keep it as is and bring lunch on the hike? OR, are we not stopping for a lunch break?

    Just a thought.

Can't join you guy for this hike, but I know the main trail pretty well, bike here quite often, this trail connect to Weir canyon which is on the Anaheim Hill side. Enjoy your hike everyone, bring plenty of water for hot day hike.

Give Blaise a 10 second lead and I'll still bet on Sandy. Blaise will be too busy with his camera taking rapid close ups of the mountain lion charging towards him.

awesome for the runners & fast runners, that makes me feel safer after jay's post about no running with mountain lions...

Jay, this hike sounds like a lot of fun LoL.
Can everyone post how fast they can fun the 40 yd dash please?

    July 23, 2012

  • Jay

Here is one small survival fact. If you encounter a mountain lion, do not turn and run. Instead, face the animal, make noise and wave your arms. Pick up some rocks and chuck it at them. But just don't try to outrun a mountain lion. It's not going to happen. And if a mountain lion attacks a person, immediately call 911. But if you're not a Verizon subscriber, don't bother. You might as well just chuck your phone at the mountain lion as well.

  • Jay

A couple things to be aware of. There is a small parking fee of $3 so try to share a ride as much as possible. Also, wildlife is abundant here from coyotes, to rabbits, to deers. Also, since there are mountain lions here, DO NOT SEPARATE FROM THE GROUP! If you find yourself bored in large hiking groups and have the propensity to go off on your own, PLEASE DO NOT JOIN US FOR THIS HIKE! I need everyone accounted for and vigilant to look out for others.
