Henry Hwang's Golden Child

Henry Hwang (M Butterfly, Chinglish, Yellow Face)'s Golden Child will be staged in London in Oct. "The most autobiographical of his work, Golden Child examines the politics of cultural conversion at the dawn of an intercultural world. "

"In GOLDEN CHILD, we meet young Andrew, whose summer project to interview his grandmother about his forebears leads to an intimate revelation of her childhood in a traditional Chinese household. Andrew’s great-grandfather, a businessman returning home to China in 1918, the year before the end of Qing Dynasty, greets his daughter, three wives, and their traditional Confucian home with a new found interest in modern occidental culture. But much to his wives’ alarm, he has also invited a Christian missionary into their home..."

Golden Child was enjoyable though not exceptional. I thought it very clever to use the same actor and same outfit (!) to play the old and young Ahn, as it creates a central thread of consistency. Thanks for organising this Sheryl though a pity we didn't meet up! Very lovely to meet Hina and Julia. Must do this again.

Hi Lily, I can't think of a good way to book tickets as a group, so I'd suggest getting individually, but would be lovely to meet up for a chat after the show?

OK thanks Sheryl. I'll get ours and well meet up for a chat later, if not too late?
