Event (hosted): Diwali Celebrations Sunday 3rd November

  • Nov 3, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This Sunday 3rd November will be officially Diwali and Southall will be heaving with Diwali festive revellers once again ! People will be making a bee-line for the Indian sweet shops and of course there will be the constant sounds of fireworks ! Im sure.

Also for those of you who are new to Diwali or otherwise known as the Festival of Lights or perhaps new to the Southall experience?, I thought this would be a good opportunity to sample the cultural highlights; great food and Indian sweets, shopping and of course an infectious communal buzz on the night as well ! in that order !  Also for those of you with a penchant for ethnic fashions, there are a  plethora of shops on the main Broadway as well.

I thought perhaps we could all meet at Alperton station on and see the Mandir on Ealing Road for 2.00 and then head back to Southall for Dinner etc.  Apologies for the last minute change of plans.

Any probs - my number is[masked].  Bye for now. Philip

Beautiful temple, great buzzing Diwaali vibe in Southall, tasty authentic food with all the celebrating families and an impromptu fireworks show - yup, I enjoyed it!

Hi Philip - Unfortunately due to logistics I could not make it, however I did visit the Neasden Temple instead which had some awesome fireworks:-). It might be a good place to organize a meetup in future as there is a veg restaurant next to it. Happy Diwali and hope everyone had a good one!

    Hello
    Happy Diwali !
Just a slight change of plans. I thought we can meet at Alperton station (Piccadilly Line) for 2.00 and then visit the Mandir. Its an absolutely beautiful piece of architecture and considering it is Diwali I thought it would be nice to visit it as well. We could stay there for a few hours and get to Southall by 5.00 to maybe catch up and have a bite at Giftos for around 5.30 . Please reply or text just to say that you've read the message.

    Regards

    Philip

Hi Philip - will there be a venue for fireworks in Southhall. Or is there an open area where people are allowed to use their own fireworks?

Hi Nicky how are you ? I did make some enquiries to find out if there was a public space but unfortunately there is no space. You tend to find fireworks are let off down residential roads or near temples. Btw I thought we could go to the Gifto Restaurant at the end of Broadway. Look forward to seeing you then..

Hi Philip, Thanks for organising. I haven't been able to locate information on this. I was wondering whether you could send a link, please. Cheers!

Hi Florence, here is a link whichhttp://www.theguardia... might give you an idea of the event. There is no one specific event happening. Southall will be just a hive of activity as people tend to get ready for their own celebrations in the evening.

And ethnic? Heaving and ethnic? But that could be fri at the fox and hound! The birdy concert last night! A ukip conference! Or Camden! (Hey its a book club you are always going to get demanding readers...)

And ethnic? Heaving and ethnic? Sounds like the fox and hound on a friday night before the smoking ban, or camden last night with thousands of zombies wandering the streets: spectacular! Sorry but being a bookworm i like to pick at metaphors: the good ones and tired ones.
