When Spring Comes - scratch reading
An exclusive preview of When Spring Comes. This 30-minute extract by Sharmila Chauhan will be directed by Dominic Hingorani and performed by a small group of actors. The story follows the Mystry family as they arrive from East Africa and settle in London.Spanning 40 years, the piece takes us from the expulsion of the Asians from Uganda in August 1972 right up to the Olympics in 2012. Following this unique journey, the piece explores, cultural loss and fluidity, family struggles and the legacy of East Africa heritage. Set against the financial boom and busts of the UK, When Spring Comes asks what success and integration really means in a modern day England, and the impact of economic migration on the lives of those involved. First developed at Tamasha’s New Writing residency.
