Book Club - Asian Authors/Books about Asia Message Board › Book Club - musings ..
It has been a couple of months since the new look book club was launched with a large variety new events, it is great to see so many people signing up for each event. One of the reactions has been that there is a lot going on and it is difficult to keep track. So here is a road-map for all the extra events, in addition to the monthly book-club meetings, that are available to members.
Monthly Social: On the 5th of every month there is quite simply a get together for people to drop by and chat. I have flip-flopped between calling it Coffee and Conversation or Wine and Wisdom, the latter name wasn’t received well. I am not sure whether it is the word "Wine" or the word "Wisdom" that put off people. So now I am calling it what it actually is that is a Monthly Social , the next one is this Tuesday the 5th so do sign-up for it if you want come and unwind after work.
The Food and Fiction meet-ups are from a small intimate group of six people to discuss a book over dinner. Everyone is encouraged to set-up a Food and Fiction meet-up, so if you have a burning desire to read and discuss a book, just go ahead and plan a meet-up. For this meet-up a no show or a last minute cancellation will be considered to be a criminal offence so please RSVP for these only if you are definitely planning to attend.
All members are also encouraged to set-up Events, such as talks, films, debates or anything else that they believe will be of interest to members. Events which are labelled Event (For info) are non-hosted which means you have to make your own arrangements of attendance, tickets etcs and any meeting up will be informal rather than co-ordinated by any person. The events are set-up for information.
Events labelled, Event (Hosted) will have a person providing the events details and co-ordinating the meet-up. If you are signing up for a hosted event please make sure that you and the host have been in touch and know the plan of where and how to meet.
Some people may or may not have noticed that they have been removed from the RSVP list of the next book club meeting – Rohinston Mistry. The reason for this is that there is a long waiting list for this event, therefore people who have a track record of no-show or last minute cancellations from previous meet-ups were moved down the list to give preference to people who are more likely to show up. This will be policy for future meet-ups that have a waiting list.
Finally we also have two Meet the Author now scheduled and there are a number of other Authors queuing up to come to our book club so watch this space.
