Spartan Sprint 2014!

Another race for our active, fun-loving members. This meetup was submitted by one of our members Teresa :) ! Here is her original message:

The Spartan Sprint is coming to the Carolinas on the weekend of March 22 & 23, 2014 at the Whitewater Center. I want to try to create a team so we can encourage, help, and motivate each other to get through it together! This will be the first time I will be participating, but it gives me a reason to get back into shape after having 2 kids. There's plenty of time to train/work out to get yourself ready for this challenge. I'm hoping to do this on Saturday, around 9am.

If the $60 early bird rate is too steep for you, you can do what I did - sign up as a volunteer and race for FREE! :) They have a whole list of things they will need help with. All I'm doing is stuffing packets for 3 hours on the Friday prior, and getting a free race out of it!

For those of you who have no idea what this is, the Spartan Sprint is basically a 4-mile, (often muddy) obstacle course that is designed to challenge you physically and mentally. They have obstacles such as Fire Jump, Barbed wire crawl, spear throw, wall climbs, etc. Those who register get:

- a Spartan Race T-Shirt
- Spartan Race Finisher Medal
- One free beer (must be 21 or older) for select USA events only
- Food Vendors
- Music/MC
- Awards Ceremony
- Top 3 Male/Female finishers receive free entry into a Super Spartan of their choice

Volunteers get free food too, from what I've read! :) Check out everything you need to know here:

This sounds like fun. Is it too late to join your team and train with you?

Sorry guys, I've had a lot going on this month and when I got around to register, the price has gone up to $90... :(. So I signed up to volunteer instead to race for free. I'm waiting for confirmation from the organizer so I can post my race time.
Malee, volunteers get to race for free in this event. Something to consider if you are still interested. Hope to see you in our future meetups.

Ok, I just got an email asking me to confirm my volunteer shift. They said that volunteers can either race around 8:45am and 3:30pm on Saturday and 8:45am and 1pm Sunday. Since I'm trying to work out my volunteer shift right now (hopefully I'm still signed up for what I originally wanted), if any of you are signed up for this, please let me know what the team name is and what time you're racing so that if the volunteer thing doesn't work out, maybe I can still have time to sign up under this team! :)
