Metro North train to Geek Pride Day

  • May 25, 2013 · 10:15 AM

This meetup is for those of you who want to ride the train together to the festivities on May 25.

Let’s meet at 10:15 near the information booth at Grand Central. We will get on the POUGHKEEPSIE STATION bound Metro-North Train departing at 10:44 AM to Croton Harmon station and ride up together, arriving at 11:30. Anyone who shows up will get a free Geek Adventurer badge.

For more information on Geek Pride Day at Croton Park in Westchester, visit the Geek Pride Day entry on this meetup site or visit Westchester Geeks at http://westchestergeeks.org/

If you are going up to Croton Park on your own and want to meet up, or if you want a badge, then look for us with badges on or wait until the email I send out to the Geek Pride Day meetup, which will go to everyone who signed up for that meetup. It will have my phone number.

A most excellent and enjoyable day was had by all. Oddly enough, the poor weather made the day that much more memorable and fun. Next year will be an incredible blast for sure. :-D

    By the clock now.

By the way everyone, I am going to be there earlier than 10:15, probably 9:50 or so. If you want to be early to get your own ticket or attempt to try the group ticket, then I recommend finding me there early, but it's not mandatory. The best place to meet would be near the big clock/information desk at grand central if you get there early. After about 10:20, we should probably all stand near the entrance to the track that the train is leaving from if it has been announced, whichever entrance is closest to the information booth/clock in the grand concourse. Obviously we don't know what that is yet so check the board or information which track the 10:44 is. At 10:35 we should all be walking onto the train. Basically, find us at the entrance to the track if you can't find us anywhere else. I will be wearing a grey trench coat.

And again, buy your ticket to the geek pride event now if you have not.

I've been trying since I read this post yesterday night to get a ticket. The site says "unavailable" and the ticket service alleged 24/7 customer service kept me on hold for 30 minutes claiming to be first in line before I hung up. Does anyone want to sell their ticket because they don't want to go for weather reasons?

      May 25, 2013

    • Stephen A.

I guess I can't make it without a ticket. According to Dina no more tickets can be sold since last midnight. Sounds a bit arbitrary to stop ticket sales (etickets) even hours before the event. I guess live and learn

This might be a good idea... "If you're coming by train and need a lift from the Croton-Harmon station, please email Dina ASAP - [masked] - and she'll arrange to have you picked up. "

    As offered a car ride.

Here is the deal everyone. Kyle is hoping to get approved for the group rate and we're waiting for the response from the MTA. If he is successful, the amount of money we pay will be cut drastically. Right now we have over 10 people which is the requirement. If you flake and leave us with less than the needed amount of people to use the group rate, we will all be forced to pay the full amount. Also, bring cash to help pay for the group rate just in case we are able to get one.

So let us know for sure if you can make it or not. Change your RSVP to NO ASAP if you can't go.

I have the email with the confirmation letter attached that is required to purchase the group ticket. Which brings me to a point unknown to me. Is a group ticket as in singular. The group needs to travel together. If someone in the group decides to leave early they will have to pay extra. Chris, what is your email so I can forward it to you. I may be catching a ride with someone.

      May 22, 2013

    • Chris B

[masked] ... well that's not optimal because I may have to leave early. So basically if a person who's on the ticket doesn't go with the group on the way back, they will lose $3. I'll bring the ticket but we need to find over 10 people who are willing to leave AND return at the same exact time. The other issue is your group ticket caps at 16, right? I am not sure who here is actually going and who's flaking out, but it may not be a number between 10 and 16. I personally am not that married to the idea of using the group rate ticket and I have no problem paying $19.50 for a round trip. So I'm willing to hand it off to people who show up to the meetup who think they can use it. How it gets distributed is not something I want to fight about.

Looking forward to meeting for the train at 10:15 and Grand Central. I might need a little guidance regarding ticket details upon arrival. Looking forward to the fun!

I would very much like to take the train with everyone, but I don't know much about Metro North (the lines, schedules, etc.) Any guidance - where to meet, how to purchase tickets is greatly appreciate. Looking forward!

I will still probably attend, but I'm changing my RSVP to no so you don't get stuck fare-wise.

You know we have enough people going to get a group rate. I believe it would be $12 per person round trip. Regular fare is more than that one way.

I took the liberty to put in a reservation for a group fare as today was the cut off date for the25th.
