All Day Long Bike Ride (35 miles)

  • This location is shown only to members

This event is organized together with the Bike Out Astoria group. I know that some of you like to bike but are not members over there, so I figured why not post this here too!

The plan is this so far (flexible and open for suggestions):

8:30 am will meet at RFK (Triboro bridge) bridge - bike lane entrance (Hoyt Ave & 27th Street)

Will cross bridge to Randall's Island and 125th street to Harlem

9:30 am we should be at Metro-North Harlem - 125th street station, will purchase tickets to get up to Brewster, NY ($13.25 off-peak). Train ride is 70 minutes.

9:58 am - train leaves the station - make sure you catch up with us before the train leaves

11:08 am - arrive at Brewster, NY - we can grab a quick bite at a deli

Get on the North County Trailway (http://www.nycbikemaps.com/maps/north-and-south-county-trailways-bike-map/) and bike down to Tarrytown, NY - (35 miles).

We will go to Sunset Cove again for some cold beer and fish & chips, than will take train back from Tarrytown to Grand Central ($9.75 off-peak) as we did last time (check out videos and pictures here: http://www.meetup.com/Biking-Out-Astoria/events/124508032/).

Please make sure you have the $5 bike pass for Metro-North - you can buy it in Grand Central Station on the spot - it is valid for a lifetime. Please do this before July28 so you have it ready.

Make sure you bring with you:

Cell phone!

Metrocard & MTA bike pass

Cash for food on the road and the Sunset Cove

Water & light snacks

An extra tube in case you get a flat on the road

This is not going to be a race. Fast riders will go ahead, and slower ones will stay behind, catching up with each other at certain points. If you have the condition to ride for a longer time, don't be discouraged by the speed. You can always opt to take the train back form an earlier train station if needed.

Do you think a bike riding novice could handle this? Honestly.
