Wine and Food Pairing Event - Not Poco at Poco!!!!!!!!

  • Mar 26, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Well, there are some benefits to being a real estate agent and that is meeting interesting people.  I met the owner of Poco over the summer and we had a long conversation about food, wine and then, an event at her restaurant.

Poco is a great little East Village charmer with a wonderful (fun) owner, creative chef, and a fabulous set of small plates. Check out the video in the gallery tab and menu on the link here

This will be a private event for us, with a full tasting menu to match with the wines!  The owner, the chef and the wine purveyor will be available to speak to us, and present the wine.  They really have gone out of their way to ensure that the food and wine match well, and have worked closely together to ensure that the flavors of the wine are brought out with the food.  They also will be happy that we critique the match, the food and the wine, as a couple of the plates will be just for us and not on their normal menu.  We have invited the NY Wine Tasting Group as well so we should have a great group of 20 fellow enophiles!!!!

Considering the name, the food will be Spanish fusion matched with a broad set of Spanish wines including Cava!!!!  Here is the basic 5 course plan that may have some slight changes to it when it comes to the food:

Murragat Cava paired with chilled kumomoto oysters with wasabi white soy sauce and wasabi sorbet.  The wine is bright, fresh, dry with that nice toasty quality.

Dibon Cava possibly paired with Oyster Po'boy sliders with smoked chili tartare sauce.  The wine is light and simple with a nice fruity, citrus, bright quality that will help with the smoke from the chili and will match up nicely with the po'boy.

Guillamina Costers Del Segre Bianco - a blend of Verderjo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gewurtraminer. This will be paired with the Truffled Mushroom Croquettes.

Suaron Ribera del Duero - This will be paired with the Chicken Pealla Croquettes.

Urbezo Crianza '06 - an interesting blend of Tempranillo, Cab Sav, Merlot and Syrah.  As an 06, the tannins have settled down a bit and it is silky smooth and delicious. The Urbezo will be paired with the Lobster Mac and Cheese.

Poco's team for this event have definitely gone out of their way to figure this out for us, to have both whites and reds.  So those of you who have indicated we are red wine heavy, I am hoping this redeems us in your mind!!!!

The $58 will cover ALL COSTS:  Food, wine, tax, tip, paypal fee, and meetup fee.  How is that!!!!!

Can't wait to see you all on the 26th!

Poco really went out of their way to take care of the 20 us! The venue was fabulous, the special menu for us was well thought through (oysters with anis, just fab), the few standard menu items included were great (those croquettas!), and the service from the staff, owner and the wine ambassador were spectacular. I no doubt will go back to repeat some of the items on their regular menu that we had! By popular vote, it looks like we will go back in the late fall with another large group for an all red event! The red that everyone liked is called Urbezo Crianza 2006. Thanks to everyone for coming, it was great!
