Scot presents Compassion for the Believer and Dana on Secular Meditation

We have a double-header tonight, great content here!

Our very own Scot Haire is going to present for 15 minutes on "Compassion for the Believer"
This presentation explores the rationale for differing attitudes that the non-believer may have toward those who subscribe to faith-based beliefs. Often times, the believer may hold the non-believer in contempt and disparagement. The reflexive response from the non-believer may be contempt, derision, or ridicule toward the believer. It is asserted here, however, that compassion is the appropriate attitude for the non-believer to have toward the believer.

Then, our very own Webmaster Dana Nourie, will spend another 15 minutes on "Secular Meditation for Atheists"

Why Secular Meditation is Useful for Atheists

Meditation has a long history, including woo meditation and those that belong to religions. Secular mindfulness meditation is different. In this talk I'm going to explain a bit about how mindfulness meditation is different, some of the scientific studies, how it's being used in psychotherapy, and why it's beneficial to everyone, including atheists.

I will also have an update on the Pride event!

Atheism's getting too crowded and mainstream. I think I should find something new to be disgruntled about. There're so many to choose from these days.

Some people marry other species deliberately; some do that accidentally. Also, I read that a family in India made their eldest daughter marry a tree as kind of a "place holder."

Marry a tree? Now I would do that! Trees are awesome.

This is the article I found on Yahoo News about the book Farah talked about titled "Zealot". The article was taken from "The Blaze" which I've been reading a lot on Yahoo not knowing the source but just guessing it was a christian publication. Boy was that an understatement. It's actually part of Glen Beck's publishing company. That says it all right there. I guess Yahoo is fair and balanced news, as they have some good articles about atheism and religion, and then they have "The Blaze". No doubt a reference to where they think we atheists are going to end up.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
