While listening to a podcast of The Atheist Experience about a year ago, I heard a caller ask how he/she could find other atheists in his/her community. The host (either Matt or Russell) suggested the caller use meetup.com to find an atheist group. Through meetup.com, I first became a member of South County Freethinkers (much thanks to Tom for running this group). Later, while looking for a freethinker meetup which met on weeknights, I found The Deconverted. And through The Deconverted, I learned about the Atheist Community of San Jose.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Believers have not provided sufficient evidence. When they do, I'll drop my membership with ACSJ and go to church every Sunday morning. I should not forget - a god that does not manifest itself in reality is indistinguishable from a god that does not exist. Also, see www.godisimaginary.com, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmjFVP6qkiI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXzlMblBQpQ
A sense of community; Better access to like minded people
I'm a charter member of ACSJ and a former member of the Deconverted. You're invited to visit my Facebook feed at https://www.facebo... - full of lots of interesting atheist stuff!
Excellent group with a very friendly, approachable and easy going leadership staff.
